From the opening long overdue potshot at Sen. Byrd to the end, not a howler skit to be seen. Armisen's Obama is coming along nicely, too. Hammond needs more work on McCain, though -- suprising. Cameron Diaz was awesome. Who knew she had the talent to nail live TV that well? Kind of a lame skit, though. I could've sworn Gnarls' backup singers were singing "run assholes" in the first number. Speaking of which, anybody know for sure what was going on with the digital short?

Loved the Cougar sketch ("all their ex-husbands have been really cool!") and the four guys singing along in a bar. Production monologue with the Demi cameo was funny. I'm also a big fan of Lyle Kane when he randomly appears in sketches, not when he's the main character. Like I don't like his talk show sketches but I really enjoyed the prom committee sketch from a few years back with Zach Braff when he suggested "Getting to Know Lyle Kane" as the prom theme ("I'm a pretty neat guy, my mom can vouch for dat. You'll discover dat I'm allergic to all kinds of wheat.") Anyway, Lyle at the club was great as was the quip about black people on That 70s Show. Going back to last week, I heard more about that episode over the past week from people off this board than I have for a long time. Laser Cats, googly eyes, family reunion, surprise party lady- all could be memorable 5 years down the line.

I get the feeling people tell her she's funny all the time and she's started to believe it.... but the reality is she's just a hot chick who's been fortunate enough to get some roles in good comedic films where she's been propped up by her castmates. OTOH I thought Kristin Wiig's new character (although somewhat similar to some of her other ones) was hilarious. I fear they're putting her in way too many skits and it's only a matter of time before she'll be overexposed on this show. I wonder if Amy Poehler, who was previously the breakout female cast member, has any resentment or issues with Kristin sort of taking her place. Probably not, since she's got her film career and all, but some of the things I've read about the backstage drama at SNL it sounds pretty competitive.

Cameron Diaz, Lyle Kane cameo and especially "Just Kidding" were the only good parts. Everything else seemed like a rehash of funnier past sketches (Cougar Club = Coffee Talk or Bronx Beat or whatever that Rudolph/Poeler one was called; Samberg doing the same tired intentionally shitty shit; Nicholas "never funny" Fain; another one of those old-joke-filled guys singing songs sketches). As far as the cougars go, Cameron > Kristen > NewGirl > Amy.
