Yes, he said it but they always cut out the remainder of his comments, which were along the lines of Iraq aligning with our current Korean and Japan situation and as long as their was no loss of life.

Do we really think there is ever going to be "no loss of life" in Iraq? Iraq is an entirely different animal from Korea or Japan.

Five years after we were in Korea or Japan, no American soldiers were dying.

Here's McSame in February, 2008:

"My friends, the war will be over soon … for all intents and purposes-although the insurgency will go on for years and years and years," McCain said yesterday, trying to explain why he said in January that it would be "fine with me" if American troops stayed there for 100 years. "It'll be handled by the Iraqis, not by us," McCain said.

So the insurgency will go on for years and years and years. Does McSame not understand who is doing the killing of American soldiers in Iraq? Oh, that's right. He doesn't know the difference between Sunni and Shiite.

Then in November, 2007, he said this on Charlie Rose:

ROSE: Do you think that this - Korea, South Korea is an analogy of where Iraq might be, not in terms of their economic success but in terms of an American presence over the next, say, 20, 25 years, that we will have a significant amount of troops there?

MCCAIN: I don't think so.

ROSE: Even if there are no casualties?

MCCAIN: No. But I can see an American presence for a while. But eventually I think because of the nature of the society in Iraq and the religious aspects of it that America eventually withdraws.
