That's because the writers are probably reacting to external pressure to tone down the homo in Justin's personality. It was fun and cute to write Justin as gay when he was an asexual little kid. Now that he's hit puberty with a vengeance, it's not just an easy joke that Justin knows the choreography for every show on Broadway and all the latest Paris fashions, it's a signifier of his emerging sexual identity.

As much as Ugly Betty like to push the hot buttons, I don't think ABC is about to let the show boldly move forward with a gay teen who's actually played by a 14 year old. As a result, Justin's probably going to be pushed to the back burner until the show can figure out a way to establish the fact he's really a gay-acting straight without alienating all the queers in the audience. How fierce would it be if they'd just send him to Harvey Milk High School, let him graduate ahead of his class, and have him become a fashion prodigy who gets into a cage match with Christian Soriano? Talk about a catfight that would be a gay tour-de-force!

Or how 'bout they make Amanda Justin's faghag, much to the consternation of Hilda, Betty, and Marc. She would so pimp Justin out to Calvin Klein to get a sporty new frock, as the ABC standards and practices office bursts into flames and the censors' heads explode.
