Just because Eckstein is short, fast, and frequently gets his uniform dirty the guy has been given all sorts of cliche nicknames that mean absolutely nothing.

Guess I missed the part where I said Eckstein was an exceptional player. All I said was that he is NOT a poor player. I realize your hatred for the Cardinals clouds your judgment and it bothers you that Eckstein has two more WS rings than the entire Cubs organization over the last century. However, Eckstein is a career .285 hitter, made the All Star team twice, won a ring as the starting SS for two different teams, and was brilliant in both his WS appearances posting a career .333 BA in 51 AB's.


Furthermore, Eckstein's value is measured more by intangibles. Stats don't make up for intangibles, and he is full of them. Same thing applies to Jeter. Eckstein has the reputation of making the timely offensively play whether it's a hit, bunt, walk, etc. He has been the heart and soul of two world championship teams. Is Eckstein an exceptional player? No. Has he been a good, serviceable, winning player in his career? Yes, which was my point.

You're not really comparing Eaton to Johan the Great Philly Slayer, are you?


I mean it's not like Eaton has a 5.6 ERA and 1.43 WHIP or anything. Not to mention he has a great Phillies offense that usually provides him w/ plenty of run support.
