Doesn't Michale have some sort of technical background, like Engineering or Architecture? Being an artist was his dream but he never really pursued that.

I've kind of had this thought process running where the items Richard wanted John to pick were items that belong to all of us, thus belonging to John
already. I can't quite get it to work out in my head.
He wanted him to pick the dirt, aka the Earth. He wanted him to pick the Book of Laws, as the Law belongs to all of us. I'm a bit stuck on the compass. Direction? Forces? Any thoughts? |

Do you think that was just an ordinary vial of dirt? It kind of looked like that stuff that was sprinkled around the cabin.

Didn't the comic book Alpert showed small Locke say 'Hidden Land' on it? And there was a picture of two cities on the skyline on it, maybe like the
one in the Lost logo. This is just what I remember from last night so correct me if I'm wrong.

I had the impression Michael worked construction to pay the bills.
Didn't anyone think young Emily was WAAAY too skinny to be 5-6 months pregnant? I know women all carry babies differently, but Emily was wearing a big ole belt around her tiny little waist. I didn't see any sort of baby bump.My baby bump started growing and showing around 2-3 months. Someone asked if that was Locke's grandmother raising him and the other kids. No, Locke was placed in a foster home, and that was his foster mother. Richard was all excited when young John picked up the vial (sand, ash), then when on to the compass, the book of laws, and then looked over at the comic/knife. He didn't show disappointment until John picked up the knife. I think the comic was the item John was supposed to select. There was a picture of 2 cities on the cover, one over the other. Made me think of Star Wars' Cloud City, only this one is poised above a city below.

Yep Michael worked for a construction company. It was rumored back in S2 to belong to Widmore Contruction but that was never proven. He did want to be
an artist.

I also think that those ashes are a dormant SMOKEY, so I wasn't surprised to see Locke pick up that vial first. Even though he claimed the knife to belong to him, he was drawn (and he drew a pic of) Smokey. |

Maybe Locke owned that knife in the timeline in which he actually went on the walkabout (considering that Abaddon told him that's all you take on a
walkabout) ... although, how Alpert would have come across it is beyond me. But I may be thinking this simply because I read the 'time-loop' theory
about 10 minutes ago.

I always thought the stuff surrounding the cabin looked like gunpowder or ash, the stuff in the vial looked like sand or small pebbles. I don't think it is
the same stuff

Yeah it looked more like beach stuff but it could be the same stuff. I like the idea of it being the dormant Smokey though.

what exactly qualifies Michael to fix a friggin' boat?? How does he know how to 'break' it & then repair it?I know Michael was working in construction before the crash but that old Oceanic website where it showed their seat numbers & passports had a section of hidden drawings & Michael's had mechanical drawings with steel rivets & stuff that could be used to build a ship. And he built the raft. ( And I'm still puzzled by Claire. Her face looked so plump. Is she preggers in R/L? And that godawful wig they have her in sucks. But besides that, Claire might have the sickness. She was totally out of character. She let someone take her baaaybeeee without a fight. She's going to commit suicide soon I think. Maybe by jumping into the drink like that other chick on the freighter did. On a happy note I figured out what was in that glass vial young Locke had to look at. It was our STH's ashes mixed with sand. Wouldn't that be uber cool? Now no one can convince me it wasn't. I've decided to run with it. Call me sentimental.

I was thinking Alpert wanted him to pick the vial of sand because it represented the island, and he was hoping the island would "belong" to Locke and
he was meant to be its leader.
I base this on the fact that I like throwing random shit into Lost threads. |

Doc Jenson of EW has some interpretations of Alpert's objects in Locke's test, including
nods to freemasonry, jewish and morman history, and sci-fi freaks, etc.
My own belief is that Widmore is Magnus Hanso, and that he is originally of the same era as Richard Alpert. I think they know each other. Perhaps Alpert worked on The Black Rock while Widmore/Magnus captained it. I think since Widmore doesn't have access to The Island any longer he "reinvents" himself as his own son, grandson, great grandson, etc. at various times. The painting of The Black Rock next to his bed is meaningful. I think his bedroom is full of the treasures of his past. And he's probably had the same London address since his sailing days....when he happened upon The Island, and became ageless, and subsequently expelled from The Island...forever trying to get back there. The Black Rock was a slave ship. Was Abbadon a slave on the ship? Was he dressed in drag on the Island as the woman who questioned Walt in the yurt? (ha) |
