I'm surprised they picked K-Rod over Santana; each has arguable merits, but based on the rest of the list you'd just assume they'd pick the more
recent phenom.

Manny is STILL playing a half-assed LF? If it were any other player they'd have been benched two years ago.

Like all things Manny, he plays a solid LF when he WANTS to. Same way he runs out grounders to First. The reason you put up with the 'Manny being
Manny' mantra is because when he's hitting, really hitting, there are few things more fucking beautiful in baseball. That swing is gorgeous, he can put
it anywhere, and you feel that shit in your chest. It's like Baseball cocaine. It can be a rush.

A .397 OBP and a .571 slugging percentage will do that for you, Anti.

Then put Papi in left and DH Manny. It would probably be a defensive improvement.

Hahahaha...uh, no. Big Papi's knee is about one bad turn around first from blowing out completely.

No, it wouldn't. Worry about fixing your team, pal, and leave the tinkering of the World Series champs to Terry Francona.
Sox just took the lead, btw. |

Indeed, my complaint has been rendered more and more irrelevant with each successive at-bat since I posted it. So THAT'S why no one cares.

I'm too lazy to backtrack to find the answer, but what were your thoughts on sending Santana to the Mets for the equivalent of a bag of balls when they
could be sporting Ellsbury/Buccholz, Lester, Masterson and Lowrie if they'd traded him to the Sox?

Too soon to tell. Twins got great mileage from the Frankie Sweet Music Viola trade with the Mets. Could still happen with Santana. Wait and see in 5 years.

The Twins need a real ballpark. That place is hands-down the funkiest place I've ever watched a baseball game. It's just a bizarre feeling being in
there.

Of course it's too soon to tell, debrun, but I was looking for Anti's initial reaction at the trading down of immediate talent the Twins did to keep
him out of the AL. Of the people the Sox were offering, every one of them has started for the Sox this year, and several were major contributors last year. The
guys the Mets offered would still be mired in the minors had the Twins not felt the need to push them into the majors to avoid a revolt by Twins fans.

Two things:
Mets playing a day night games tomorrow....i hate that. I'm going to be at the game on Sunday, I wanna get my pink Mets hat! |

At the time it looked like we'd just been convincingly swindled; I would have laughed at any Mets offer without Wright, let alone an established SP, and
what we got was essentially a bag of magic beans from the Disneyland gift shop.
On the other hand - we got Carlos Gomez and so far he's been just about the coolest kid to put on the Minstripes in quite a very long time - the financial constraints of the best Boston/NYY deals would have been more dire a lot sooner than simply gutting a team's prospects, developing them, and worrying about their contracts years down the road - Santana's happier on an NL team where he can hit and where he can plow through a whole new batch of poor saps, plus we don't have to worry about facing him - the Mets are the more palatable of the mega-market clubs; there's nothing sadder than a superstar from a small market getting sucked into the Empire and Boston's right behind them. The Mets are the Twins with a payroll. - we're not doing any worse without him than with him anyway, in fact we're overachieving compared to preseason projections and somehow we're currently on top of the, uh, let's say "most competitive" division in baseball How well the trade worked out will be determined in the long run by those prospects. After all, we traded Pierzynski for Joe Nathan and two prospects named Francisco Liriano and Boof Bonser. |

Thanks for the candor.
Still think the team would have been more competitive with the Sox deal and gotten a lot more to show for it. Don't get me wrong, I still believe the Sox were only in it to keep him from going to the Yankees, but it strikes me as odd they didn't jump all over either the Sox or Yanks deal instead of the relative scrubs the Mets sent. That said, given the way Hughes and Kennedy have played this year, I think we're both breathing a sigh of relief they didn't go with the Yankee deal. |

The Twins need a real ballpark. They put up a countdown in the left field seats ticking off the number of home games until the new park opens, and they make a little ceremony out of it every night in the fifth inning. Even the Metrodome people have abandoned all delusions of positive thinking about the place. However, we did win both our WS there and it's snowed the last several Opening Days. |

Well shit. It's not every week you see back to back blown saves by Papelbon. There's something about the concept of the uncontested steal that chaps my
ass right about now.
