Funny you mentioned that since my first thought went to Crowley and Thelema. ;)

I think Jacob IS the island. Hence, the "help me" he said to Locke and the "Jacob loves you" message Carl saw. I think the island's
purpose is to heal people by making them deal with their baggage.

I think young John knew what Alpert was asking for...he first picked up the little jar of dirt. He was drawn to it first. I'm going to guess that was
part of the island. Little John CHOSE the knife...because that was what he wanted. We see this sort of thing again when the science teacher points out to
John...what his true-calling seems to be....science. John chooses against his true instincts again.
But when Christian asks John to ask what needs to be asked...John asks...how to save the island. Right there...was his confirmation as the sought out special person. Most people would have asked...how can we save all the people. I would have. Abadon heading John in the direction of the walkabout was interesting. But strange when he told John next time they meet..that John will owe him one. I just can't figure out how Abadon fits into all of this...he's just too mysterious and almost seems like he's on both sides...at this point of the story. |

suicide, recover in the hospital, visit with Tom, and then get to Figi to join the crew.

I'm pretty sure I've read all the messages in this thread and I haven't seen anyone mention John's relationship with knives. Didn't he have
a suitcase full of them when they crashed on the island?
