I don't think we so much witnessed one of the dumbest moves in Survivor history, as much as we did one of the smartest. I mean DAMN. Cirie and Natalie. DAMN. That could have been a smart move on Erik's part.

Sorry, GiMG, I don't agree that it would have been smart for him. He played SOLELY on emotion, anathema to this game. You don't "agree to sacrifice your queen because I was mean to you earlier" when playing chess. He should have first asked Nat/Cirie what their Plan B was going to be if he DIDN'T give up the necklace, because I doubt they'd have had a coherent answer. He played because he wanted to earn the graces of the fAves--and indeed, that turned out to be his theme all season: "Wow, look, it's Ozzy!" "Ozzy Ozzy Ozzy Ozzy...!!!" "Look, it's Jeff Probst, just standing there!" etc. Even his closing confessional was not "Boy, did I get played", but "Wow, I got to sit next to all of my idols". He was the ultimate "Tourist" prototype, winning a very hard-won and well-deserved Immunity when he needed it the most, only to give it up so they would like him.

Too bad that Probst was probably given a heads-up to the girls' plan and his leading questions contributed to Erik's dumb move.

I don't know--we don't know what questions we didn't see from him. I actually thought he might be getting ready to ask some "cluing Erik in" questions ("Do you think you might be getting played regarding giving up the necklace?"), although I guess that would have been stupid for "business", since Erik giving up the necklace would be Reality TV History.

Normally the episode right before the finale is pretty weak. Parvati's episode scared me quite a bit, though; just very weak and out of the vein of past winners' weak pre-finale episode. Of course I'll stick with her though!

I don't think we can use the regular "penultimate model" on this one, considering the very unique situation; it was the Immunity Necklace Show from the moment Cirie brought up the scheme, so all ratings will be off, since we missed all of the "usual" pre-TC scheming and plotting (there had to be SOME plotting going on of what would happen if he kept the necklace--which of the 4 would be sacrificed?--and that would have been important Edgic material.) All of that was swept aside for the Big Blunder.

It was one of those rare moments where you felt that mixture of disbelief, hilarity and sympathy all at the same time. I doubt any of us hated Erik, so we did not revel in his downfall. At the same time, we acknowledged just how retarded a move it was in a season noted by retarded moves. It takes the crown. OTTx?

I agree that Erik's tone can be nothing without a footnote. Sympathy is usually P, stupidity thrown in our face, usually N. What happened here was a freakish version of both. I will go with M, because he WAS positive during the RC, Reward, and IC (was there anyone who was NOT pulling for him to win Immunity with all their heart? And shucks, the kid pulled it off! Ha, we're going to see the Black Widow Alliance eat its own...!) But then the negativity of his flip-flopping, breaking promises (as if THAT is something novel), and vicious SPV from every direction certainly tainted his "good for him!" positivity of the first half. And Tribal Council was just...painful to watch. We all knew the ending, but couldn't turn away.

I guess it's not Edgic, per se, but interesting how Immunity tokens have been a big theme this time: EVERY juror except James (oh, the irony!) is tied to an Idol or necklace SNAFU. Eliza played a fake Idol, Oz and Jason didn't play a real one, Alexis was Idolled, and Erik handed the necklace over, trading his game for a chance to sit at the popular kids' table (um, think again, kid :-/ ), which it turned out was his real goal in the first place.
