I really believe that early in his career his fans hurt him more than helped him both in the industry and with more moderate fans too... I had hopes that they had mellowed, just based on the fans who are posting here these days.... but I took a peek at the clayboard and wow... I could only read a few pages and couldn't take anymore...

I personally hope they take his advice and just simmer down... the album is gonna do what it does...it's a great album and regardless of what it sells Clay should be proud of it... and so should his fans...

Overzealous fans can be hurtful as they can turn people off in their drive to promote their favorites. I applaud Clay for being honest and trying to educate his fans about the right way to go about promoting him. I enjoyed Clay's CD on AOL First Listen. He has a golden voice and this album highlights it nicely.

And I agree with every word of this. The wringing of hands and gnashing of teeth is just exhausting.

That's why I rarely go to the "big 3" or the official fan club. It all just wears me out. I just want to enjoy my fandom and his glorious voice and yes, his success, without listening to all the angsting and belly aching because he's not MORE successful . Not that I don't want that for him, too, of course, but some of the conspiracy theories wear me out. I think Clay has stated in the past, and I tend to agree, that he's had a lot of success and would like it to continue, but not everyone is going to like you and you can't make them. Since it appears to me that most radio dj's use him for a punching bag, I don't expect much radio play. By the same token, I choose to never listen to radio anymore. But then, I think it's a dying medium anyway, what with ipods and the internet and downloading and all of that. I'd rather listen to hours of straight music of my choice than asshat dj's lame jokes, commercials, and lots of music I don't even like.

At any rate, I'm so thankful for the Spamalot opportunity as Clay proved that he can stand up to the rigors of an 8-shows per week schedule, has good comedic instincts and timing, and can act, besides that 'golden larynx' of his. Plus he's an interesting and charming interview, so hopefully he'll have plenty of opportunites for a long time to come.

I liked Clay's blog. . . a lot. "Some" of his fans have me running for the hills! But I've met more normal ones that not to be honest. The nutjobs just have a way of being seen and that has caused me to retire wearing any Clay shirts to the concerts. Clay will be fine. He knows who he is and where his music belongs. One thing he does need to do is stand up for himself. It pisses me the hell off that he doesn't. He definitely needs to consult with me 'bout things dontcha think?

It has been a while since Clay Aiken has graced the music world with a full blown studio album. 5 years after "Measure Of A Man", Clay showcases his growth as a musician as well as a person. From the catchy "Ashes" to the inspiring "As Long As Were Here", Aiken shares his diversity like no current musician. After every Clay release I find myself wondering what could he possibly do next to showcase his talent? Of course only he knows what is to come up next.... But with On My Way Here, he has hit another homerun. There's a great pallet of songs to choose from. There are of course the Clay Aiken pop rock tunes that music fans all know him for, then there are tunes that will shock even the most faithful "CA" fan. If you are only a fan of his pop rock material then chances are you will be giving this disc a lower rating then myself simply because of that reason. But if you like a broad range of material that covers different musical genres then it is a no brainer that you will appreciate this release. The one song that I feel will shock many "Everything I Don't Need", because it is "CA" outside the box. Clearly going the extra mile to try something different and frankly I think it worked out perfectly. Overall Clay has done the impossible again, releasing a disc that has something for everyone. If you liked his previous releases it only makes sense to continue the trend and pick this one up. If you didn't like his past works.... I say give this one a try, listen to some audio clips via iTunes or other legal websites. A fun filled adventure from start to finish in the way only "CA" can do it. > Good - New material, vocal arrangements and the right direction. should've just said ALL OF THEM! that was a great review and more on point than some of them I've read. I'm not sure I'd agree that he's comparable to Barry Manilow though... unless they mean old school Barry.... which I loved... new Barry is kind of a shell of his former glory IMO..

I feel like I'm in bizarro world. I may have to use Survivor Sucks, home of some of the most vicious Clay-bashing in the past, as my "regular" Clay message board. It's so....so.....sane & grounded!! I consider myself a Claymate, but sheesh those regular boards are exhausting indeed and have been taking away from my thorough enjoyment of this CD. It's great!

And, yeah, I applauded his blog. It needed to be said and since "calm the hell down and back off" wouldn't work, the lengthier open letter worked for me.

^^I hear that, DouglassGirl! I almost gave up on this board (which I really liked otherwise) because it was so vicious towards Clay, but either Spamalot gave him a tad bit of cred, or people just finally got bored with the fantard wars and other insanity, I have no idea. I'm just glad you can finally have a discussion about Clay on here with only the occasional troll dropping in to be, for the most part, ignored and starved out.

On May 6 we had two different teams covering two different celebrity autograph signings.

First up we caught up with Clay Aiken at The Virgin Megastore in Manhattan where he was doing a CD signing for his new album titled "On My Way Here." We all remember Clay from his time on American Idol, but did you know that he is the most successful male and the most successful runner up in the show's history. This signing was limited only to 300 people and Clay would be signing his CD only, no memorabilia or other collectibles would be signed. When our 3 collectors got up to Clay they asked him if they met him back at his hotel if he would also sign some of the photos they had of him. Clay was real cool and said "sure." True to his word later on that day our collectors caught up with Clay a second time back at the hotel and he proceeded to sign all the celebrity autographs they needed. Thanks Clay!

I did give up. The overwhelming majority of my 400+ posts are from the "Other Shows" forum. Discovered this thread a few months ago and just lurked for a while. But it seemed safe enough to dabble in posting. I was lucky enough to see Spamalot and he did really really well and fit right in with the more seasoned performers.

speaking as a recovering Clay basher I just got tired of the bullshit. the mud slinging and the name calling just got really old. not to mention that most Clay fans stopped bashing my favorite, which helped mellow me A LOT
