I would do SRO but Mumsy-in-law will be in town for the day and she wouldn't be able to. I saw Spammie with the original cast which is why I'm
resisting full price tickets. Nothing to do with Clay, just the fact that shows are outrageously expensive and I won't pay full price twice!

I would LOVE to see the show. There is no way I could afford the trip plus tickets, food, hotel, etc. I would never pay full price twice either
spring, Clay or not, those tickets are expensive.

Spamalot does not have a Wednesday matinee, only weekend ones.

Spring, I am sorry you won't get to see the show. It really is fantastic and Clay does a really good job with his role. But if you
miss him, I recommend you go after he leaves. It will probably be easier to get cheaper seats then, and Hannah, Tom, Rick, and David are so worth seeing. As
an ensemble cast, I am so impressed with them.

I think the whole CD is going to be good. I'm anxious to hear the rest of Ashes. |

I've only allowed myself to listen to the snippets twice, but it was enough so that I'm panting for the full CD! Less than 10 days to go!!

Ok so I watched Clay tonight on QVC...
I'm gonna be Paula and say the positive which is that he looked fantastic! He showed his great personality, laughing and joking with the host and a caller! The songs he sang were exactly what I was hoping they WEREN'T! very easy listening type stuff. Why does Clay sing like he's 80? His voice also showed some strain IMO, esp in the more uptempo song (sorry can't recall the name of it but he sang it second or third... the one he said was a departure)... His voice has IMO lost some of the smooth/clear quality that I liked so much. If he sang songs that a grittier voice lended itself to that would be one thing but he's treading very much in the Josh Groban area of song choices and his voice has a bit too much rasp in it for that type song.... I'm not sure if the vocal issues are due to his run on Broadway and the constant singing and performing or this is how his voice has developed over the years. He sold really well... I think they only made 12,000 available for the pre-sale orders and they had 1,000 left by the time Clay started his last song at the 30 minute mark of the show... The producer/host mentioned that many people were buying more than one...probably for gifts because of the bonus CD which contained a never released video for This is the Night.... |

The sound was crappy on my tv so I downloaded the clips on my computer and they sound great. I think he may have been limited by the small band with him. I
would like to have heard Ashes or Falling but maybe those songs will have to wait for a larger band.
He looked tired. Tomorrow he is singing with Hannah Waddingham at the Broadway Cares fundraising event. |

I'm really looking forward to listening to the whole CD. I really loved Everything I Don't Need and thought I was going to hate The Real
Me but ended up really liking what we heard of it on QVC. I think he'll get some pretty good reviews for his album.

His voice wasn't perfect - I did hear a tad bit of strain a couple of times - but I like the songs, three of them a lot. A couple of them I need to hear
more before I can decide. Can't wait to hear the rest of them.

I heard some strain in his voice too and he didn't seem quite "settled" in his delivery of the songs yet. What the HELL has that man been doing
that he doesn't have time to master the songs for this show???

I'm nuts about him, also, Who. The Real Me and OMWH and Where I Draw the Line are all gorgeous songs and I'm sure I'll love the other two after a
few more listens. Heck, besides Spamalot 8 shows a week and at least a gazillion interviews and very little sleep, I think I can cut him some slack on not
sounding perfect. My gf, who is a casual fan, watched with me and she can't wait to buy the CD now. I told her that by the time he tours with these songs
he'll be settled into them and sound fabulous like he always does in concert.
But yeah, I hear ya about the higher register - falsetto, even! And he knows how much his fans love his lower register, the stinker. Still, there are 6 songs we haven't heard and I'm counting on at least one good ol' lower register song. |

I think by the time he tours he'll be perfection on the songs. Doesn't sound like he'll be touring anytime soon though. Which is good. Boy needs a freaking vacation. |

A well-executed falsetto used sparingly to good effect can be a useful vocal skill. However, an entire song (or the majority) shouldn't be sung in
falsetto, then it becomes a high-pitched pecular style of singing. Which was the case with Clay. After years of waiting for a quality CD and the cover CD
debacle, I sincerely hope his fans like this CD and that it'll sound better later on. But, the QVC thing was a very rocky start.

A well-executed falsetto used sparingly to good effect can be a useful vocal skill. However, an entire song (or the majority) shouldn't be sung in falsetto, then it becomes a high-pitched pecular style of singing. Or not. One of my favorite Bruce Springsteen songs is entirely falsetto -- to very good effect. I have no problems with falsetto, going way way (way!) back to being a huge Frankie Valli & the 4 Seasons in my early teens, so any Clay falsetto doesn't bother me in the least. I find it interesting that Lover All Alone is getting rave reviews when the refrain is very falsetto-heavy (or perhaps that's proving your point, bst16!). Anyway, the fact that Clay's been doing 8 shows a week on Broadway since January and recording in his "spare" time makes me give him lots of
slack on the quality of his live singing on QVC. (okay, I'd give him lots of slack, anyway) I think the CD will be just fine. I'm betting he will be
knocking it
