Testing...
eta: oh, wow--I have an avi! David should be honored as I've been a sucks poster since 04 and a local sucks lurker for a year or two before that. He's my first. (Blushing.) Thank you so, so much to suckshardcore for the help with the avi, and again to seaguy for the firefox/apple help. Smooches! Now I have to go read what's been going on before I post about how much I loved what he did tonight.

That's a hot Cooktar.
For real though I really wouldn't give a shit if Cook's hair was receding still and he looked like shit. That voice is fucking amazing to listen to. I love it. |

Everything about that performance was pure hotness.

He's amazing! vocally he's sublime! I wasn't sure he could pull off an ALW song but damn the boy proved that he can sing!!

My favourite from the outset this season was Princess Danny, but after he was eliminated it became David C. IMO Cook is one of the most versatile, mature
singers to ever appear on this show. I rarely fantard about anybody but am willing to make an exception in this case; the only thing that could possibly have
been better would have been him performing something from JCS.

I agree with Simon and I do prefer the gritty side, but he was really awesome tonight. Whenever I think he can't pull a song or theme off, he surprises
the hell out of me.

(Also, thanks to blurdog because I totallly stole that picture you posted for my very first avi.)
I LOVED what he did tonight because he basically sang it straight--no rock/grunge (well, maybe a teensy bit.) I'm a broadway baby and I would never have expected him to pull off a straight version of the song. He did--he may not be Michael Crawford, but his voice sounded beautiful. I actually think it was "very brave" of him to try to pull off the song without changing it up too much. It showed a different side. Show tunes and rock--can he GET any hotter? |

I was so surprised by him tonight too. I expected him to maybe change it up and do a rock thing with it but he just sang it and showed off what a great singer
he is.

I think he has it bagged. He's the Jordin to Archie's Melinda (except Cook's better than Jordin and Melinda is better than Archie), he's
gaining the momentum at the right time, mid-way through, to surpass him. It should carry him to Final 3 at least. I had written him off pre-Top 24, but this is
another season 6 scenario where the eventual winner (I think it's a given that he'll win at this point) stayed UTR for the semis and then surprised
everyone.

I would have rather heard him just stay with the original all the way through. When he sings those big songs, like tonight, his voice sounds very rich. I wish he'd do more of those. |

I liked his ending. The theme wasn't really his thing but he did it and then threw in a little Cook flavour at the end.

I think he was set up as the winner long ago (Archuleta as the Melinda, Michael and Carly as the obvious plants to take negative scrutiny away from Cook), and he's basically earned the title with his performances, but I wish they had planned the season better. |

Damn, even if I prefer his "grittier side," I think it was brilliant to take the opportunity to show that he can do something completely different
that well. Nobody will be able to pull the one trick pony label on him now. Great move, and very nice performance showing off skillz I didn't know he
had.

I think the Jordin-Melinda comparison is fair.
I said all along that this season was about finding the next Daughtry. Now they've found him. Next season will be all about finding the next Carrie Underwood or Kelly Clarkson. They wanted a male winner this season, next season they'll look for the next big female winner. Hopefully they'll make it a bit more entertaining though. |

James Barber wrote: I'm with you about the ending. When the song first started, I was thinking that it sounded really nice. He hit that first high note, and it was great. I thought the song was going to be almost perfect, and then he went and effed up the end. Oh well, the whole rest of the song was really good. Not that anyone cares, but I've said several times that David needs to sing with his authentic voice instead of copying someone else's style. Tonight, he sang with his own voice, so it sounded great (until the last note). |

I really think that the problem in the entertainment department this year has a lot to do with the themes.
I understand the musical accomplishments of Mariah Carey or how great Andrew Lloyd Webber is and how much great music he's contributed to Broadway, but for themes on American Idol? Let's get real. They bitch and bitch about how they want people to be current or contemporary or whatever but that gets a little difficult when you make them sing the songs from famous musicals. Leave that stuff on the stage, it's great there and people enjoy it but as a theme on AI it falls flat and excruciatingly boring for the most part. |

I think the Jordin-Melinda comparison is fair.I think what makes this matchup worse for me, even though David Cook is much more talented and a deserving winner than Jordin, is Melinda was a grown woman, whereas David Archuleta is still 17 and allegedly has the stage father from hell. If they planned this season all along looking for someone to be in the Melinda role, I wish they could have found someone older and with less on their shoulders if they lose. |
