Andrew mentors American Idols Following the announcement that Andrew will appear on the hit US TV programme "American Idol" we can confirm that the episode featuring Andrew will be transmitted in the USA on FOX (Tue. 8/7c) on April 22nd. Andrew will be guiding the contestants and as they perform a selection of his songs from the set of "Phantom the Las Vegas Spectacular" at the Venetian Hotel, Las Vegas. Andrew will also perform live with the contestants on the results show which will be shown in the USA on FOX (Wed. 7:30/6:30c) on April 23rd. The shows will be broadcast on British television the following week. Not all of these are the obvious choices or the most famous songs from the musicals but they would all be good choices in terms of vocals. David Cook - "Gethsemane" from Jesus Christ Superstar - fits his voice perfectly and could be one of the best performances of the year, big and powerful sustained notes with tremendous emotional potential, needs to be sung with passion and this is the only AI contestant that could even begin to tackle it Jason Castro - "Pilot's Dream" from Jesus Christ Superstar - also fits his voice perfectly, limited range, simple guitar accompaniment, has a folksy feel to it David A. - "Close Every Door" from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat - one of the most beautiful songs ALW has written, powerful and religious and David would sing this song well, could be one of his best performances Syesha - "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again" from Phantom of the Opera - a beautiful power ballad and the one where the character of Christine really shines vocally Kristy - "Any Dream Will Do" from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat - not vocally challenging and she could "country up" the song and still make it work Carly - "With One Look" from Sunset Boulevard - a showpiece and could be one of Carly's shining moments, lovely lower range in the song and Carly has one of the most powerful lower ranges seen on AI Brooke - "Could We Start Again Please?" from Jesus Christ Superstar - a simple, lovely song that suits Brooke's simple, lovely voice, could be done with minimal accompaniment Again, my "wish list" and just my 2 cents. Carly should sing something from Sunset Boulevard. Kristy could do well with "I Don't Know How to Love Him." I agree with survivorspolierlover about David A. "Close Every Door" (or for my enjoyment "When Children Rule the World.") "Benjamin Calypso" would be perfect for Jason. I don't like David C. but ummm ... something from Jesus Christ Superstar. All I can think of for Syesha is "Tyre Tracks and Broken Hearts" even though that's a duet. I would hope they would pick songs from the lesser known musicals like Song & Dance, Starlight Express, or Aspects of Love (that's how I got my user name.) But if anyone would chose a song from By Jeeves they would get non-stop voting from me. Now if I was on the show I would do an all weepy mix of "It Just Doesn't Get Any Better Than This"/"If Only." If I was a tenor I would sing "A Kiss Is a Terrible Thing to Waste" or if I was a bigger guy "Pumping Iron."
