Sounds pitchy in the rehearsal clip, although Mariah says it's "better than me." Actually I like the start except for the lowest note or two, which are off. It's well-interpreted, and for once, the timbre of her voice sounds like it was made for the song. The audience is definitely into it, clapping politely halfway through. Speaking of formulas, this is the Anyway formula applied to a different song. Lots of strong vocals through the middle, with a few weak spots in the controlled parts, and toward the lower end of her range. She's basically stationary (again), which seems to be helping support the notes. The last line is on target, just like last week.

Randy: You know, uh, I gotta tell you. I didn't think that was amazing, a couple of pitchy notes in the first part ..
Audience: NOOOOO!
Randy: But you started stepping up at the end.
Paula: It wasn't just at the end. You're a very smart girl. Stepping it up, choosing the right songs. Kristy, I'm like, blown away. I like most how the arrangement was done, you could have a c/w hit with it. What a legacy Mariah leaves to the younger generation.
Simon: You probably weren't jumping for joy when you heard Mariah week.
Kristy: It gave me chills.
Simon: You didn't give me chills.
Audience: NOOOOO!
Simon: It was whiny at times.
Paula: Oh, come on.
Simon: It just wasn't great.
Audience: UGGGGHHHHH.
