The question from the one poster asked why should gays "respect" the sanctity of marriage when they are not granted that privilege in the first place. I see that as a different question than "should gays be allowed to marry". I'd love to hear nonTC responses to this question.You can't really have it both ways - i.e., scoffing at marriage whilst trying to get the right to marry.

You are speaking like we have to EARN the right to marry when MANY heterosexuals are just given that right. Look at the many failed marriages and ridiculous vows people break in marriage daily... 50% of marriages end in divorce. These people take the right to marry for granted... they did not EARN it like you are telling the gays to do. Dude, that's kind of a "No YOU are" arguement. In reality do you really think a gay marriage law will be passed without some respect being shown to the institution? Yeah, lots of marriages fail. That's not relevent to the debate though and would actually work against you. |

it's more of a golden rule thing - treat others the way you want them to treat you - and don't go yelling about how someone broke up your relationship with someone when you've done the same and that goes for gaes and hets and it's not a religious thing for me since I'm kinda areligious |

I think we are agreeing on the same core points squash but some people use the argument that:
a. gays can not technically procreate so why should they (or would they want to) marry b. gays do not take the sanctity of marriage seriously beause there are a population of them that cheat The same arguments could be used against heterosexual marriage if someone wanted to be overzealous and tackle that argument |

There are some people who are getting upset that we're judging SuitSnob for being a dirty cheating liar, but then find it convenient to ignore his judging me for supposedly being a Christian. Why is it that it's okay for him to jump on me for my religious beliefs but it's not okay for me to deride him for his own moral (lack thereof, really) beliefs?
