Our age limit cut off is 30, so yes MJ could compete.

Australians obviously don't care if their idol was born here, has citizenship or knows all the verses to Waltzing Matilda as one of our most popular
winners is Irish born. He got his citizenship after winning.

As long as they're here legally, I'm not seeing the big deal. Even so, that still eliminates 5% of the population of the US.

Ten years living in the U.S. is plenty of time as far as I am concerned!

Michael Johns and other wannabe Americans should get their citizenship before they are allowed to compete for OUR American Idol. The American Idol rules are: Obviously your definition and American Idols definition of "American Citizen" differs. So ya might just want to get over your incorrect assumptions. Rami (born in Saudi), Michael and Carly all deserved to be there. DIVERSITY ROCKS!! |

The general consensus around here was that there was nothing so horrible about Ramiele (who came here as a child with her family, like 4th season finalist
Anthony Fedorov) or Michael (who's lived here for 10 years) being eligible for AI. Carly was a different story, more because of her CD on MCA than her
being here only 2 years (and moving here specifically to try to make it as a singer), though many people including me had a problem with that too.
I do think that if the show comes back next year they SHOULD change the rules to exclude non-citizens (which would STILL let Ramiele in, mind you) or people who'd released CDs on corporate labels (but not homemade ones--anybody with a little money can do that). That would level the playing field and keep these discussions from cropping up in the first place. |
