I honestly hadn't remembered the "you're not my type" comment to Kate. Thus, I was taken by surprise by tonight's revelation.
Imho, they went a bit overboard trying to "hint" that Tom was gay. There was also the him not being able to stomach the sight of blood, his cute attempt to hit on Jack, his admission that Harper made him cry, etc.
Here's a thought: After Tom made the comment to Kate, "You're not my type," a lot of us were making facetious comments about Tom saying that because he's gay. What if Darlton tossed in that scene last night as a nod to the fans?
In issue #13 of the LOST MAGAZINE Actor M.C. Gainey confirmed that he had deliberately played Tom as being homosexual ever since he picked up on internet discussions about his character's sexual orientation following the aforementioned line from "A Tale of Two Cities".
