sofa is simple.
1. season 1 2. season 2 3. season 3 4. season 4 5. season 5 watching the wire is like falling in love. season 1 got my attention. season 2, as we got to know each other, showed me an intriguing side. season 3 was when it got nasty. and with season 4 there were children. but i had to go through all of the previous seasons to get to the point of appreciating season 5, as we aged together. sure, by season 5 the wire's tits were sagging and her butt was about to hit her ankles. but my love for the wire by then so much it didn't matter. like i said. i'm simple... i love how simon did that. |

The wife and I just watched all 5 seasons in order over the last the last 15 days since we are both taking some down time together, which rarely happens.
Rewatching it in order is something you HAVE to do. There are all kinds of obscure characters that make comebacks that you don't 'get' with 9 months between seasons. It didn't just stand up to a repeat play. It was BETTER the second time around. |

Anyone remember that scene where Bunk uses the photocopier to fool some banger into thinking it was a lie detector?
Homicide: Life on the Streets Season 1, Epsiode 8. Munch and Bolander did it first but it was still brilliant in The Wire. ets to fix 2 horrendous mistakes!

Since I've gotten some neat-o gifts this Holiday season, I was hoping to experience The Wire in HD...alas, there are no box sets on blu-Ray. I can't
wait for that epic day when the series is able to be watched in it's true form.

I don't think The Wire was ever filmed in widescreen HD. All 5 seasons were 4 x 3 standard definition. David Simon deliberately wanted it that way. I guess
it looks "grittier" in standard definition.
Besides, I shudder to think what a complete Blu-Ray HBO boxed set would cost. The Complete Series is out on DVD. Basically the same features as the individual season sets, except with the 3 short prequels and a gag reel thrown in. So really not worth upgrading if you already have the season sets. Hopefully Simon's new series will get picked up by HBO. |
