So she got the most votes the week she did Circle of Life? I figured she did well that week, but that was the same week that Fantasia sang "Summertime". I figured Fanny got the MOST votes. |

Yeah, when it got down to Fantasia and Jennifer, Ryan said the person going home had the most amount of votes in one of the previous weeks (he never
specifically said it, but it was obvious it was the week she did "Circle of Life."). I remember a big conspiracy when Jennifer left was that there
were power outages and phone problems in (I think it was) Chicago (or near wherever Boomie was from).

Supposedly the power outage was in parts of Boomie's hometown. Ironic considering it was the "closest results show" ever, and those votes would
have certainly boosted her ahead of Fantasia. I wonder how neck-and-neck they were? I imagine it'd be in the two-digits or by a few hundred, if Ryan felt
the need to call it out.
Must have been fate, considering Boomie's arguably the most successful contestant from AI3. |

It was demographics that done it | ||

Jennifer Hudson is arguably the only person in the history of Idol voted off prior to the top 2 or 3 after giving an A-List performance (Weekend In New
England), during season 3's Barry Manilow night. And John Stevenzzz wasn't even in the bottom 3 that night with his snoozy version of Mandy. Must be: a
conspiracy/power lines down in Chicago/republican vote counters, right? Well, no. The actual reason is boringly simple: there were 4 black contestants left,
including 3 women, out of 7 total. Having the 3 black women in the bottom made a kind of sense, not musically of course but based on who the voters were (and
it being Barry f---ing Manilow night undoubtedly caused some hipper viewers to not watch). The real travesty that week was that it was Jennifer and not
Mantasia who was voted off.

I'm not interested in arguing Boomie v. David H. since I rooted for both of them and felt both were eliminated too early. But I totally agree with Drew
on this. David H. should have had some credit built up with his earlier kick ass performances. That he did not is kind of appalling.

Sorry. I knew that Fanny sang "Summertime" on movie night. I forgot that that WASN'T the night that Boomie sang "Circle of Life" (it
being from a movie and all).

Hernandez and Jennifer Hudson are similar- they both had some stand-out performances and received lots of votes on those nights but they didn't have lots of obsessive fans (like Kelly Clarkson, Clay Aiken, Taylor Hicks, Elliott Yamin, etc).

Mantasia is nothing but an untalented slut who should have been kicked off the second she sang that Elton John song. I'm sure the producers rigged the votes that night. Christ, aside from MsBossy, who the fuck actually voted hard for that bitch? |

I hated Mantasia, but having her booted off on Elton John night would have been ridiculous. The Way You Look Tonight is a horrible, boring song, but I thought
she did a decent version. That night was arguably the worst in Idol history, with 3 absolute trainwreck performances (the 2 Johns and Camile) and two more
subpar (George had one of his worst performances with Take Me To the Pilot, Diana gave what she said was her worst performance with I'm Still Standing).
Camile's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road is still considered THE definitive trainwreck performance, the one by which all others are judged. Only Jennifer and
Latoya were actually good (Elton John, who wisely stayed away that night, said he would've signed both of them). Mantasia shouldn't have made the top
12 at all, but her performance wasn't even among the worst that night.

The fuckin screeching in the chorus was just fuckin revolting. Mantasia simply CANNOT SING period. No ifs ands or buts. She NEVER sounds good, and she never looks appealing. My hatred for that bitch is pure! |

The appropriate time to boot Mantasia from the show would have been ANY of the following: at her audition (just say no!), in Hollywood, in the semifinal round,
top 10 night (she gets a 2 week pass while Leah and Fatt are booted), top 8 night, top 7 night ESPECIALLY, top 5 night (she gets another free pass at top 6 so
snotra can go home), and of course any time after. Really, even with the judge's constant, tone deaf and utterly inexplicable praise of her, we had SO MANY
great chances to boot her and failed each time. Why, America? WHY??? (as you can see, many of us are still pissed about this even 4 years later). Having
Mantasia win almost killed AI completely, like having the equally untalented and abrasive Lukas Rossi winning did to Rock Star. On the plus side, it led to
Nigel & Co. scrapping the overlong and unfair semifinal format and wild card round.

Camile's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road is still considered THE definitive trainwreck performance, the one by which all others are judged Wait a minute - I am sure there are quite a few nominees for that position. THE ultimate trainwreck is usually considered to be Crocodile Rock by John Stevens. I think Camile is small potatoes in the long list of trainwrecks. If you are only including top 12 performances, here are some others that were excruciating: Katharine McPhee - Against all Odds and Who Wants to Live Forever; Tamyra Gray - New Attitude; Jasmine Trias - It's Raining Men and All By Myself; Kellie Pickler - Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered and Unchained Melody; etc. |

Kat McPhee's "The Voice Within" is much worse than "Against All Odds" or "Who Wants To Live Forever." It's that
unrecognizable screechy thing she did on top 10 night that put her in the bottom 2. It was so tuneless it's hard to remember clearly. Agreeance on the
other disasters.

Kat's "Who Wants To Live Forever" was pretty good. I agree with the rest of the trainwrecks though, though you're forgetting Jasmalien's
"Everlasting Love" and Carmen's "Call Me".
Archtard's Beatles song this week needs to be added to the list of craptacular trainwrecks. |
