I'd rather see an active player win, even if it's Cirie. As for Penner's departure, my prediction is that it's going to spell the end of Airai. Jonathan's not just been a major contributor to challenges and the physical building of the new Airai shelter, I get the feeling he was doing lots behind the scenes and is still liked by the 'fans' because he had yet to seriously work his game and start flipping things around. And if he'd been toughing out the injury for a bit and still working as he could around the camp, that'll just make him more of a good figure to them. Being evacuated, if it happens tonight, will crush them.

I could really see him shredding anyone in the Final 2 to win his vote. Not unless TPTB put him on the jury as compensation for the fact they fucked up and injured him to the point he had to be removed from the game. And that's what completely pisses me off....if he'd twisted his ankle on a coconut that would be one thing, or if he decided 'boo hoo, I miss my wife and kids I'm quitting now and taking my marbles and going home'. But it's their own negligence that's caused this situation. And I'm sorry--I'm not satisfied with Kierhoffer or MB saying 'oh, we'll do better in the future, we've learned from this experience'. I want something done NOW to not only compensate Penner for this, but potentially for Ami if her knee is really screwed up and it ruins her chances in the game. On Survivor you always run the risk of injurying yourself in a challenge, especially one as physical as that one. You can get hurt during any challenge over the course of the season, no physical challenge is hazard free, EVER. That's the risk you take when you go on the show.

If that challenge had been properly designed and constructed, people could well have ended up with scrapes and bruises. But there shouldn't have been any sharp pointy things that would result in a puncture wound.

Whose to say the sharp pointy thing wasn't just a twig from the ground or a tree that got caught on the equipment? Like I said, there is just no way for the production crew to make a challenge 100% safe. There's just too many different scenarios or variables during each run threw. The Dream Team could run it through 50 times and no one gets hurt, then they can bring the contestants out there and someone could fall and crack their head open the first go round.

And after having other contestants during the challenge bashing their heads against the posts and stuff, the crew could've temorarily stopped the challenge or chosen to postpone it until the conditions were safer to run. Yes, physical injury and illness is always a risk, and Survivor challenges have been physical before. But there's a big difference between the risk of injury and endangering your contestants. They screwed the pooch on this one and more than one contestant paid the price for it.

Posts: 53 (03/13/08 3:00 PM) Reply Quote More Recent Posts Message Connection Block Invite	I think I recall reading somewhere in these bazillion pages of boot lists and spoilers someone bringing up the "He is risen" comment and speculating that maybe he's brought back into the show...after reading these last few pages and the publicity of him being forced out of the game, that tidbit keeps creeping into my mind. Yeah, I think it's kind of a longshot, and quite possibly wishful thinking (not to mention, OVER-thinking), but I can't help but wonder... And yes, I am a Penner fan, so of course I'm going to hope it has merit :).

I think physical injury due to a challenge is not what MB and CBS worry about. This is Survivor, not f--king Dancing with the Stars!

We could just as well be talking about JC getting his eye poked out. I call what happened negligence. They get paid to make sure things like this dont happen. Its not like with Micheal and the fire. Survivor is a risky game and all who play it, know that. However, several players were injured during this challenge, some more than others and that only serves to illustrate that this particular challenge was poorly made and poorly run. At the very least, they should have delayed the challenge until the conditions (read: muddy) were better. These poor folks had a bitch of a time slipping and sliding in the mud whilst navigating through a very hazardous course. Yes its supposed to be tough but that was ridiculous.
