Hell, even *I* picked up the phone to vote against Clay, and I didn't even like Ruben. That is why Ruben's career tanked and Clay's didn't. Clay's votes were FOR him, Ruben's were against Clay.

Watching Season 2 I can't believe Trenyce didn't go further .....I compare her voice to the girls this season and there is noooo
comparison......Trenyce not only has a better voice but her delivery is so much more professional.....AND compared to Kim L. (who is not as good as i
remembered) Trenyce should have been in the final 3 with Ruben and Clay

I agree Trenyce was one of the best singers in the competition but her arrogance was annoying and it comes through even in the edited down version on rewind.

Josh Gracin, ugh!! He is so fucking awful! Even his "country" singing is fake - a bad country grrrrr impersonation. He does look hot now by the
way, who'd a thunk it. But he definitely went farther than he should have. And Carmen as well.

I think had Kelly, Justin or Tamyra been in Season 2 they'd have easily won.I think Kelly Clarkson would be formidable competition in any season of Idol at all. I think Klo or Trenyce could have given Tamyra trouble, and I am absolutely positive that both Ruben and Clay would have had Justin for lunch. The most crucial thing I see when comparing season one and season two is that season one had a very tiny handful of excellent people at the very top - Kelly, Justin, Tamyra. Everybody else that year was pretty weak. C'mon. Nikki? RJ? Jim Verraros? Ryan Starr? What a mess. Season Two's talent went further down - Klo, Trenyce, Rickey, even Caldwell had her moments. Of course, season two also had both Carmen and Corey Clark, so that goes against it. However, I do think the season that probably had the most overall talent was season five. That final five was AMAZING. A season where the weakest contestant is Ace... is a good season. I think Season Seven may be shaping up to be as good. |

I don't agree that season 5 had more overall
talent.

I guess it's all a matter of opinion and/or perception. I'd have no clue what anyone from Season 2 was doing if I didn't post on this board. However, all I have to do is turn on the radio and I hear at least five of the top 10 finalists from Season 5 on the radio. I'm watching rewind right now and I'm sorry the talent on season 2 was pretty shaky to say the least. It was really hit or miss with them most
nights and with the exception of Kim Caldwell and perhaps Trenyece not one of them was a good performer. So far I'm pretty fucking bored and thinking I
didn't miss much by not watching the first time around.

^^^ Unfortunately, the parts that made Season 2 rather charming aren't shown. They had some pretty decent group sings and the Ford commercials we're
adorable - I remember one in particular with Ruben and Clay primping to the tune of "She's A Lady" only to have Kim Locke walk off with Ryan.

so it wasn't the best based on the actual performances but rather the filler? hmmmm

They had some pretty decent group sings and the Ford commercials we're adorableI LOVED the Ford commercials, and they were the only year able to sing well in the group numbers. Season 2 was a fun, exciting year back in the day before Idol lost its innocence - and Ryan became obnoxious. I don't think they will ever capture the buzz of the final 2 that year. As for which year was better in terms of just singing?? Subjective of course. I could have predicted 6 months ago that ILGE would say the talent was better on season 1. |

I just think the carefully crafted personas made the show more interesting that it would have been (and which is why Season 6 suffered so much compared to
others). Here's that commercial I was talking about:

I've like all the seasons (except Season 3 sucked) pretty much. Season 2 was my favorite because that's the first year I watched from beginning to
end and believed my vote actually counted.

actually I'm not saying overall Season 1 was better talentwise... Season 1 had Jim and AJ that alone puts them below on the talent range IMO... But I
don't find this season to be all that fantastic in terms of likeability of the contestants and the performances just don't have that wow factor to me,
not on the level of praise that Simon and Co keep giving them anyway. Perhaps I've become jaded over the years and had I watched it when it was fresh I
might've felt differently. It's like ET....I didn't see that movie for almost 10 years after it came out and when I finally saw it I was
disappointed. I learned a lesson then to see big movies opening weekend before all the hype because I find that once someone tells me how fantastic something
is I tend to be less than impressed. that's why I'm so glad I saw Season 1 from the beginning. It was new and different. Those contestants had no
idea what they were getting into and each week they gave it everything they had with no promise or idea of what the pay off at the end would be and I think
that's what makes Season 1 so much more enjoyable for me. Every season subsequently had had an air of entitlement and expectation and it ruins it just a
little bit, for me anyway.
