David has some of the best vocal dynamics of ANYBODY in the history of the show: he can go from loud to soft and back, and take lots of vocal runs without going off key or running out of breath. It's a real gift. Unfortunately he doesn't also have a great range, and obviously can't do a falsetto at all (and knows it). The result is that some of the vocal runs he did last night that should have ended in falsetto notes, like Paul McCartney's original version, simply got cut off and he then went on to something else. The result was choppy and unsatisfying to listen to, in spite of some great moments. Doing the song that way wouldn't normally be that horrible of a mistake--his performance was still much better than Syesha's mediocrity or the two total trainwrecks at the end. But combined with the judges dislike of him (presumably due to the gay strip club stuff) and a certain coldness about him, and I think he's a goner tonight. It's a shame, because I think he's one of the better singers this year (albeit with some problems) and I have voted for him.
