Should the Confederate Flag be banned??? |
Lead | |
|
I argued with my teacher about this. He thought that people should sport it proudly if that's where their heritage lies. I said that they can
''sport'' something else proudly. He said that his main reason as to why he thought this was that it was wrong to deny history.
WTF, or is he right? |

Of course it shouldn't be banned. We have free speech in this country, even if by using your free speech you show how stupid you are.

umm no. Yes, the Confederate flag has been hijacked by hate groups. But some people do look at the flag as part of their heritage....so I say, if they want to
let it fly, then that's their choice.

We are going to need some kind of flag when we rise again.

It should be banned if every other flag that is disliked by some faction is also banned.
Free speech and all, like Quaffetti said. |

It shouldn't be part of any official or government displays. But civilians can knock themselves out.

He was like, ''Why does that bother you?'' I said that I think that it means that the person driving the car is a racist/predjudice, and that I didn't like the idea of blah blah blah. |

Did that person driving the car say or yell anything racist? Or is it your preconceived prejudice that the Confederate flag = racism?

Your teacher is free to think whatever he/she wants to think. Why does this bother you so much? Do you think you should only be taught by people who share
all the same beliefs and values as you?

I too think that it shouldn't be ''banned,'' but I was surprised at my teasher thinking that sporting it on whatever wasn't a big deal
at all.

Ban speech, ban flags, ban books, ban cars, ban guns, ban smoking, ban alcohol, ban everything. We should just become Nazis and get it over with.

The prejudice is something the flag bearer is aware of and is willing to take the risk. What it means to people is the heritage of their ancestors'
country, just like a Mexican or Swedish or any other flag. The CSA essentially did the same thing the British colonies did a century earlier, revolt and
declare independence from a perceived oppressor. They just didn't have as happy an ending. Southerners are still as proud of that as they or any American
is of their more traditional heroes. They may have been fighting to keep slavery and so forth, but the Founding Fathers weren't exactly saints either.
