Nothing compares to this show in terms of the intellectual and emotional impact it has on the viewer. I don't know if I will be able to watch the finale without crying from the minute it starts. Spoiler [+] Just reading your reaction brought back *#$!% to my eyes. Simon & Pelecanos are geniuses, no doubt, but Tristan and Jermaine played the hell out of that scene and I was inconsolable for at least 10 minutes afterwards. Of course, I started losing it when Michael realized he was being set up and then the finale Snoop (Snoop!!) scene. I agree - arguably one of, if not THE best television episode I've seen on television.

I hope this doesn't turn out like The Sopranos, where the second to last episode was amazing but the finale was a letdown.

Ha ha. Spoiler [+] DAYYYYYYYYUMMMMM! Loved the cameos from Bunny, Namond and the Deacon. I agree with the poster who said that Hamsterdam is why Bunny was cold towards Carcetti. Carcetti knew about Hamsterdam and did nothing to help Bunny weather that particular storm after it blew. I'm pretty sure Colvin lost his pension. Man, the tension I was feeling when Michael got in the car with Snoop. Good on him for doing a little investigation of his own because I would've been mad if Snoop had gottent he jump on him. Damn this show for making me feel the least bit of sympathy for these crooks. I haven't seen a bitch go out like a soldier that hard since Queen Latifah in SET IT OFF. Loved the meeting between Freamon and Clay Davis which mentioned Stringer Bell. Loved how Freamon's ears perked up at that. Much better than McNulty not recognizing the gravity of Omar's death, or Daniels' talking to Partlow and not recognizing him. The prequels pretty much suggested that McNulty was going to get found out, but damn, I wish Kima had kept her mouth shut. That said, loose lips sink ships and I have the sinking feeling that Herc's big mouth is going to do far more damage than Kima's. (On a side note, I guess Levy's grand plan is working beautifully. I always felt that he revealed the fact that he had Marlo's cell number on purpose, so that when the shit hit the fan, he'd have one hell of a trump card to play for the trial. He looks like a genius. Marlo pays more money. DA and the police force end up with egg on their faces). Maybe I'm too cynical. The ending with Duquan becoming the new Bubs was too much. Coincidentally, there was something in my eye when he and Michael left Bug at his aunt's. It started itching even worse when Michael couldn't remember the piss-balloons. While it seems like the pieces are falling into place a little too conveniently in Gus's investigation of Scott, I hope Templeton goes down (which means McNulty will probably go down). Good thing we had Bubs' speech in there. Needed a really good moment to go up against all that other despair.

BTW, we are supposed to be identifying who becomes the new who, since the basic theme of the end of this is that the same shit happens over and over, and we're helpless to stop it. With that said, I know that Dukie becomes the new Bubbles. Who becomes the new McNulty? Who becomes the new Omar? Who becomes the new Marlo? Who becomes the new Prop Joe? Etc., etc. And is anyone else hoping for Avon to somehow factor into the finale? I know that he's in jail and all, but it seemed all too simple for his crew and Marlo's to simply merge together, and then have him make a cameo early on in the season. I'm kinda hoping that Slim Charles shows up in the finale and takes out Marlo on behalf of Avon, but I guess that's just wishful thinking.

So, I've been studying for the bar exam for the past two months and so I cut myself off from HBO, knowing full well that I was missing the Wire. My plan was that once I finished the exam, I get HBO again and watch it on demand. Well, I finished the exam on Thursday and have watched three episodes each day. Now I'm caught up with all of you and have to wait for the finale. I just gotta say that I'm kinda glad that I got to watch all of the episodes back to back. What an epic, epic story! I can't believe this is going to be it for the show. Such brilliant writing and equally brilliant performances. Here's hoping the finale is all we can imagine and more.

He was saying goodbye to his sister and her children. They never made that clear on the show. It does make more sense. I could never picture Chris with a wife and kids.

It's possible he's mistaken, but it's also possible it was just sloppy writing (just like Omar walking into the convenience store without a limp). Or maybe they changed things halfway through the season. I guess it doesn't really matter at this point.
