but even then I would think she wouldn't have Aaron thinking she was his mother knowing that Claire was still alive. I do not like this. At all.
But they obviously don't want anyone to know that more people actually survived the plane crash, so if Kate is part of the coverup (which she is), it's not unreasonable that they'd have Aaron believing she is his mother. The last thing they need is for that boy to be telling his babysitter or his daycare provider that Kate is anything but his mother (especially since the rest of the world doesn't know who really survived the crash).
