It's bad. People are pretty damn bitchy and picky here. The main reason I want to quit is because half of my tables complain about their food when it
comes out. One bitch complained about her slider buns sticking to the burger patty so she couldn't put ketchup on it. Bitch, it's a slider, a small
burger...they are supposed to be like that. Anyways, when I have to put in their food, not once, but twice, and the 2nd time takes a while, sometimes THREE
times (yes it happens!) people get pissed at me! And plus I neglect my other tables dealing with that bullshit! Fuck it.

I'm not sulking I'm a damn hard worker and I do work out. Betch. I just like to point out that a lot of people are mega-bitches and treat me like
I'm dumb when I'm actually pretty smart. I make good money, I won't complain about that but I still just had to put out there that a lot of people
complain about...well nothing

I think every person should at one point in their lives wait tables for a month. Then they would understand the business and not act like complete asshole
snobs when eating out.

There are a few things I find really annoying in the job hunting process, but I've long since turned it around on employers.
It's just a sales funnel. When I used to job hunt, I'd set a goal of putting out 100 custom resumes and cover letters a month. Out of those 100, I'd get 5 to 10 interviews. And out of those, I'd get 1 to 3 offers. And sometimes they'd try to fuck you around on the money, so you used other offers and sort it out. You're never out of options. If I didn't hear back within two days with an offer, I knew to write them off. Sometimes you'd hear back a week later, and then ONLY because their 'A' candidate dropped out, and you were the 'B'. Of course, by then, I'd have 2 more offers on the table, so I'd be pretty picky. These days...if the worse happens and I'm forced to take an EI holiday, I'll repeat the same process, but I'm not as worried. I've got a really solid resume. My advice to you, in New York, is to do as many interviews as possible...and generate a lot of choice for yourself. Problem is: most people can't be bothered to put in that much effort into a job process. Getting a job is a full time job. Hate to say it. But you gotta bring it. |

Yeah they say they call you here if you do or if you don't get the job in California, but they really don't call you if you don't. Is that what the library did to you, Amy? |

I waitressed before, it was ok, my biggest complaint was little old people complaining about being cold, when you are running your ass off and hot. I just
wanted to say, hey, you are old, you know you get cold easy bring a sweater! I had to wear cowboy boots and shorts, lost too much weight running around in
those heavy cowboy boots.

I've never waited on people but I don't complain or bitch at all...if waiters suck I just leave them less tips, I don't complain about food to them
or slow service

If you can't get a job in the restaurant industry, you're a fucking looser. And no matter where you work people will bitch. When we pay people to do
shit for us, we feel like we are better than them.

I was working in the HR Dept. at a hospital, and all day long I would get calls "I applied for a job there and haven't heard anything...."
I had to bite my tongue each and every day, cause I wanted so bad to say WHAT DOES THAT TELL YOU, DUMBASS? |

LOL it was really dumb of me to move here without a job...hahaha... well I only moved here though because I am going to graduate school at Columbia. But
that's in the fall. I thought it would be fun to get settled in with a job before school started though. Not totally dumb, right?
Anyways, I thought I honestly would have no trouble with a degree from Penn State and many other factors that make me a great candidate for jobs! But it was difficult. The job is rough and they are making staff cuts next week. Because I am new, I might be out but I am actually feeling pretty confident I'm safe. Despite being new, I am a hard and loyal worker so I think I might be one of the two new people they'll keep around. I'm good with customers and get along with the entire staff (including the spanish-speaking kitchen) I don't ever bitch about anything though at work...or when not...when I'm like waiting in line at the grocery store or whatever...I never feel like I'm better than the person who is on shift presently. Oh well...yeah....so this job will do for now. It pays the bills pretty comfortably. I will start looking for something better in a month or so though :) |
