So this was the last episode of the season, and probably of the series? It didn't feel anything like a final episode; we didn't get "closure"
on any of the stories or characters. But in a way, that's more in keeping to the spirit of the show and what made it (at its best -- deliberately
overlooking a certain homicide, some crazy meth heads, and a handful of other dubious "season two"-isms) feel so honest and true, and is a more
appropriate way to end the show, than any contrived "finale" episode (the Panthers buck the odds to repeat at state with yet another last-second
comeback, all the matched couples get (back) together, Mrs. Coach gets elected mayor of Dillon, Mama Smash wins the lottery, etc.) ever could've been.
There are no happily ever afters in life, no tidy resolution of character or story arcs; there's just one day after another, each with its own set of
challenges and little victories and defeats, and the world keeps turning. I'll miss these characters if I never get to see them again and wonder what
would've happened to them, because they felt like real people, not constructed characters.

In the event this show isn't renewed, you've pretty much summed it up. Life goes on, and doesn't have contrived happy endings.
NBC did the same thing 3 years ago with American Dreams. Storylines were, for the most part, left unfinished, and
unfulfilled.
But there was one storyline which was, argubly, wrapped tonight. If the next TV season came back without Smash, or with him in a recurring/limited
where-is-he-nowcameo role, his Dillon storyline is complete; he has found a father figure/coach and has moved on to a
new family.

Yeah, I don't think it was intended to be a finale. And I bet whether it's renewed or not, we see some more eps -- I thought I read it that for some
reason, FNL will be among the easiest shows to get back into production.
Moral of last night: do not deny Lila Garrity your manhood when she wants it. You get your neck broken and paralyzed? Outta here. Virginal sky pilot with morals? She doesn't have any -- next! Especially when there's always Tim Riggins as the standby friend with benefits. This chick makes Tyra look virtuous. Still, reverend guy might prefer to play for the other team; perhaps she picked up on that? Did you all notice that Mo the ex-boyfriend was Peter Berg, who created the film and this series? Nicely acted, I thought. The guy knows his turf. Chandler must've had a blast beating up the boss. Gracie Belle must've changed her PR agent. Berg was hoisting her in that little pink number as if to say "You dress your daughter like THIS?" What a whore. Who else but a Scientologist would let their daughter appear on family television dressed like that? Case c.l.o.s.e.d. |

Yeah, I knew that was Peter Berg playing the ex. A little wink, wink to the audience when they told him, you made all this possible. I can understand Jason
wanting to take what will probably be his only chance to be a father. Even though the circumstances are pretty bad. Love Tyra and Landry being open about their
relationship. Loved that Smash got the full scholarship to Whitmore and his mama was so proud. So funny them playing the song about being where you belong when
Lyla was at Chris's well-to-do parents home. I think Tim needs to move on from her. Could so see the fight between Coach and Mo coming. I really hope this
show comes back on one network or another! I love it! Going to miss it!

From zap2it:
A "House" rerun, 5.3/9, put FOX on top at 9 p.m. CBS' "Moonlight" rerun, 3.7/6, edged NBC's "Friday Night Lights," 3.5/6, for second. The second hour of "Smackdown!" on The CW topped a "Desperate Housewives" rerun, 2.6/5, on ABC. |

Not good news on the ratings, but now that Nielsen is counting DVR viewings, I bet it does much better. Can you find out SLD?
Gracie Belle: feh. There go them wacky Scientologists, putting words into the mouth of one of their infants the second a suppressive person shows up. Hack. Anyhow, some of you were asking what to send in to NBC. Light bulbs. http://www.bestweekever.tv/category/save-friday-night-lights Either that or bottles of Clear Eyes. Leave it FNL fans to muddle their message.... Thought this was funny, though:

Thanks for the link. I went to the site & signed the petition. It worked for Jericho, hope it works for FNL too.

*This site* is collecting money to send mini footballs to NBC. They have already collected almost a thousand dollars. I think that would be cheaper than sending a light bulb or some clear eyes. Plus this way NBC gets a huge shipment. Unfortunantly unlike the Jericho campaign last year it will be hard to have huge shipments sent every day which was very effective. |

Latest rumor (seems like there's a new one every week) is that FNL won't be returning, but that there might be a 2-hour movie that would wrap up all
the storylines.
But until anything official is announced this is all just rumor and speculation. |

:) I feel your pain.
The rumor is from Kristen, so it should be taken with a healthy grain of salt. The weird thing is she says other networks are looking at the show, so I don't know how the two go together. If they wrap everything up in a movie, how would the show be able to continue on another network? Unless they're planning on doing one of those "relaunch" dealies that are so popular these days. Anyway, here's what Kristen had to say: Two Hours Left? Sob: According to sources, one option NBC is considering for Friday Night Lights is to "wrap it up" as a two-hour movie of the week. That's not nearly enough, if you ask me, but at least it's something. We're also hearing the show has already been looked at by at least a few other networks. |

You know, I can't quantify it, but I have a very good feeling about FNL's return. Particularly if the sub-networks are looking at it. The budget
can't be more than NBC's favorite child USA Network can afford. If USA can afford to run around South Beach filming Burn Notice, they can certainly
afford Austin, Texas.
Anybody read ESPN's Gregg Easterbrook, aka Tuesday Morning Quarterback. He provides occassional FNL commentary, but sometimes appears to be watching a different show. Anyhow, here's his take on the Smash scandal, which I think is well-taken: Friday Night Lights" is handicapped by unrealistic game scenes, and, in what might be its last episode, rolled out an unrealistic recruiting subplot. Earlier in the season, star tailback Smash Williams was one of the most sought-after prospects in the country; he was trying to decide among scholarship offers to Alabama, Florida and fictitious Texas Methodist University. Then Smash got into a fistfight and was suspended for three games, although no charges were filed. All the football-factory colleges immediately withdrew their offers, and as of last Friday, Smash had to commit to fictional Whitmore College, a perennial loser, because Whitmore was the sole school that would take a chance on him. This is unrealistic. Smash hasn't been charged with a crime, merely suspended temporarily by the local athletic district. No football-factory college would have any problem with this, let alone drop a highly sought recruit cold.Of course, there was a racial element to the Smash incident, but that would've cut in Smash's favor in RL. BTW, Whitmore didn't strike me as being a perennial loser, but a Div. II historically black school like Grambling or Howard -- hardly losers. (Oh: albert, you scientologist whackjob, quit putting words in Gracie Belle's mouth. She's old enough to defend herself.) |
