So they'd only need to have an excuse for 1 person.

I don't expect to see Michael back on the island...only in flash forwards. I could obviously be wrong though. I think Michael will have a new name and be living a new life. If he goes back to his old life he has to explain what happened to the plane. So, I don't think he would necessarily have to be in New York...it would make more sense to be as far away as possible if my theory is at all correct.

As someone mentioned in the thread for ep. 4x01, the O6 are celebrities, and as such a funeral for one of them would attract at least some media and gawkers, but no one attended the person's funeral.

That's why I think it could be an O6 person. I mean, when the survivor of some accident dies later on, it's not like a TV crew shows up to film the funeral. It's usually just reported in the papers, and that's that. Then again, after stuff like the O6 stuff, you would think long-time family members and friends would care for them and come to their aid, and those people would attend the funeral. So who knows really.

It's usually just reported in the papers, and that's that. I dunno though, look at how crazy the press is nowadays. I think they'd be all over it. A standard obit would not include the details of the death, but the names of those left behind. The newpaper clipping was more a news article than an obituary. If it was one of the Oceanic 6, you would think that whoever the reporter was that felt it necessary to write the article, would have asked the remaining survivors for comments and would have reported on who attended the funeral. It was just a blurb article, more notable not as to who died, but the circumstances of the death. And yes, someone in the press would show if the person had some sort of celebrity status. So would at least a couple of gawkers, if for no other reason than to be able to say they were there. I still say Coffin Person was not one of the O6.

As to the other three, I think coffin guy wasn't one of the six, for the reason WB gave. There should have been some gawkers or onlookers if he was famous, which Hurley made it sound like they were. The other three, I think, are Sun, Locke, and either Walt or Michael. Sun would be one of the first ones shipped off, I would hope, for the fact that there exists a great possibility that she will die during childbirth if she stays. Locke because it would be karmic for him to have left the island against his wishes. And either Walt or Michael as my wildcard guess. I didn't include Claire and Aaron simply for the fact that Aaron may yet have a role to play in all this whether Claire approves of it or not. Where Aaron goes, Claire goes, and I don't think he's leaving the island.

I can't conceive of a good reason why Sun and Jin would stay on the island, so I say they are part of the six. The sixth person is Sayid, since I can't imagine why he would stay on the island. I also think Desmond and Juliet would want off the island, and got off, but would not be deemed one of the six since neither was on the plane.

I think that's part of the big secret they keep, and Kate is not one of the six. Penny knows all and helps finance the hiding. Michael and Walt are also in hiding, but the news/fame of the 6 draws them out and Michael reveals himself to them only, so they know he's alive and there is obvious tension with them all. I believe Michael is eventually in the coffin. Rose, Bernard, Locke, Sawyer (for drama, the separation of him and Kate!), Desmond still separated from Penny, Juliet separated from Jack, and Ben are still on the island. I think that Danielle and Alex might make it off too with the 6, just because seeing them try to fit into the real world would be great TV. Jack Hurley Sun Jin Sayid Claire, minus Aaron, to keep him safe in hiding. Prevailing bad guys very perplexed. I'd be interested to see if the O6's seat numbers on the plane are the 6 Numbers. I know Jack's seat number was one of them, don't remember what it was, but I remember that it was one. Jin and Sun would have been sitting together (15-16?) Okay, now I'm blathering.

What if they don't actually get off the island until sometime in the future? It's still possible that Sun is going to die. I can't see Jin wanting to go back after suffering that loss. And apparently, Charlie is walking around still, like some sort of Mr. Jordan and he looks fantastic - so Claire may want to stay with him on the island. It's quite possible that the other 3 of the 6 are people that they haven't even introduced yet.

Uh, probably not since the Oceanic 6 need to be 6 people who were on Oceanic Flight 815. So unless they plan on pulling another Nikki and Paulo on us, it's probably going to be people we've already met...this is the same reason why the Oceanic 6 can't include Desmond, Juliet, etc.

Unless they somehow commandeer a craft and jettison the secret folks before getting picked-up or landing. And then the secret folks have to make it in their little raft back home undercover somehow? I don't know. I'm guessing 6 is all that make it off the island. So far we know of 4 of them: Jack, Kate, "he", and Hurley. And I'm sure the Christian Shepherd is Alive people are hoping he's one of the six.
