Episode 10 Notes | ||
|
A FEW IMPORTANT NOTES ABOUT EPISODE 10:
Some general notes about the story and episode:
1) It looks like I was correct in predicting that this episode would be better liked than the last one, so I'm glad I wasn't too
far off in saying that. The rating for Episode 9 (since I haven't put it up on page 1 yet) was actually 8.040, which is the lowest this season - but not
the lowest ever.
2) Once again, a lot of people correctly predicted that James would be voted out, although there were quite a bit of Denise and Frosti
picks too. I'm aware of the supposed predictability though, so I'm hoping that there will be some surprises before the end of the season.
3) So this was the episode with the family visit. Always a fun one to write, but sometimes a bit of a challenge. The family visit Reward
was one that I was getting really tired of, which is why I deliberately avoided it last season. The feedback I got in the past was that the family visit was
boring, and I tend to agree with that. I knew I didn't want to have the loved ones go to camp again because that would be extremely repetitive, but I think
that the Reward really worked out well. I didn't have time in the episode to show a lot of the movie, but I would have to say that it was an interesting
idea to have a Chinese movie shown along with the fireworks show. I think that worked out well and made things more interesting.
4) So Dave's lies resurface again. It won't be the last time for either of them, but I hope that this storyline provides a little
bit of extra intrigue since it's something that is sortof new. I showed it early on in the season so that you could see how it progresses further on in the
story.
5) Again, after a Reward Challenge, Sherea is upset and causing turmoil at camp. It definitely wasn't a good idea for her to be making
those comments about Erik because it created some bad blood between them, and it could certainly impact their alliance down the road.
6) Just a quick note that someone already asked about but I wanted to post it here: when Dave said to Frosti that Leslie and Denise were
threatening jury votes, that was a lie that Dave made up to get Frosti to vote out James. I would have showed it if it happened.
7) Also, I originally had a post-TC night scene where Frosti talked about having the idol among a few other things. Some of it got
switched to Episode 11 , but some of it got cut out, so I did want to just give a reminder that Frosti does have the real Immunity Idol and that it can be used
at Final 6/Final 5/Final 4, if he lasts that long. I will definitely mention him having it in the next episode.
8) Another thing I wanted to improve in this episode was the scene right before the Immunity Challenge, so that it didn't go right
from the Reward to the Immunity. I think that I did that well in this episode, with the Erik/Sherea "fight" in there to break things up a bit.
9) With James being blindsided in Episode 10, that should just about bring to an end the similarities to the real show. There are a few
minor things that might be similar to other seasons, but there's a lot of unique storylines at the end too. So I hope you continue to enjoy the story. Only
three episodes to go! :)
I think that's about all I wanted to say but if I think of anything else to add, I will edit this post with more. My sincere thanks to everyone for reading this, and I greatly appreciate all the comments! :)

COMMENTS & QUESTIONS
(A) What did you think of this episode? Please be as detailed as you can, wherever possible. I really loved this episode becuase it was so well structured. The James boot was clearly explained and even forshadowed from early on in the episode. I liked how the suspense built up- first if was just Dave's joke, then a serious idea, then Leslie said the same thing, then James lost immunity and then it was up to Frosti. But I don't think it had the same 'wow' factor that his boot had on the real show, possibly because it wasn't James's own blunder than sealed his fate. Iv'e realised ever since he won the second individual immunity challenge that you were picking him to win the challenges for a reason, either that he'd win them all until he lost one and was voted out, or until he won (ala JP; but I knew you wouldn't repeat that story again) (B) What was your overall favorite part of the episode? Frosti spilling the pot (C) What would you rate this episode out of 10? (1 being the lowest; 10 being the highest) 9.5 (I'm saving the 10 for next week, all season I've been waiting for the final six tribal council that Jeff Probst said would be the best one during the press conference) (D) Do you have any questions about this episode that you''d like to see cleared up in a future episode or at the Reunion Show? Did anyone ever doubt Dave's two big lies? He doesn't come across as a very trustworthy person. 1. SOLE SURVIVOR POLL (A) Which castaway will be the Sole Survivor? Leslie 2. WHAT'S NEXT POLL (A) Which castaway will be voted off in Episode 11? Denise. Leslie needs to be the last Fei Long in order to be the ultimate underdog :D 3. POPULARITY POLL (A) Please rate each castaway's popularity from 1-10. 1 is the lowest score, while 10 is the highest. Please try to base your ratings only on the likeability of the characters in my story, not how they appeared on the real show. Aaron - 4 Amanda - 6 Ashley - 8 Chicken - 8 Courtney - 3 Dave - 8 Denise - 5 Erik - 5 Frosti - 7 Jaime - 4 James - 6 Jean-Robert - 4 Leslie - 7 Peih-Gee - 3 Sherea - 9 Todd - 5 4. EDGIC POLL I won't do ratings this week because I read the episode in two sittings. Messes up your perception of visibility and gives everyone a mixed tone... Current Chart
* Please factor in your own ratings for Episode 10 for the following questions 1) Based on Edgic, which Survivor(s) do you think have the best chance of winning? 1. Leslie- She's still the best pick out there, and her over-positivity seems intentional in order to create doubt in her edgic chances. Just like Todd got negativity in the real show. 2. Sherea- There's no good reason to rule her out yet, and she would certainly make a 'different' and memorable winner. (3.) Erik- I think this is too little too late. When I got to Erik on the popularity poll, despite his reward win this episode, I still gave him a neutral 5 becuase I really don't care so much about where he ends up, and he seems somewhat boring still. My opinion is that GuatemalaFanfic needs a new edgic contender to take the heat off Leslie. 2) Based on Edgic, which Survivor(s) do you think are not eligible to be the winner, and are therefore "eliminated?" Frosti- INV, and also the fact that he had no development other than the bare essentials until very recently. We saw him get the idol, and that was it. Sort of like Jaime in the real show- everything she said was about the idols. Denise- INV, especially one that was relatively far into the game. Dave- Too negative. Based on the themes that he's being reffering to for the past few episodes, I think that he will almost certainly make the finale. Either he comes second because whoever he is up against in the final two convinces the jury to vote for the best player/person rather than giving away the sympathy vote, or the others decide to vote him out becuase they are scared that he will get the sympathy vote in the end. The lies will come back to haunt him in the end. |

Hello chapera rocks. Thank you very much for commenting on the episode. I'm glad you've been reading this
season and enjoying it so far. I appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts. :)
No prob, and thanks for making the template. :)You're welcome. Really, really liked it. The episode where I truly had to freaking idea what was going to happen, especially with Frosti's confessional right before TC. Definitely the post tribal council scene. So much uncertainty. :D Thanks. I'm glad to see that you weren't sure what was going to happen. I thought (worried) that it might be too obvious that James was going to be blindsided, so it's good that there was some uncertainty about it. A big thank you to you for rating the episode a 10 as well! :) Very good job on your Edgic ratings. James - UTR2 (Seemed like he didn't have a presence)I also felt like he didn't have a big presence in his boot episode. Sometimes that happens where someone's story basically happens all before their boot episode and then they aren't shown so much in it. I definitely felt that way about Chicken too, but there's been a few other examples in other seasons. I'm not sure if that is good or bad, but I've noticed it. I still think James scraped out a MOR3 though. Thank you for your lists of contenders/eliminated people as well. Great job! Thanks again for commenting. Hope you have a great day! :) Hi JFRX. Thank you very much for your detailed comments. I enjoyed reading your thoughts, as always, and you make a lot of great points! Iv'e realised ever since he won the second individual immunity challenge that you were picking him to win the challenges for a reason, either that he'd win them all until he lost one and was voted out, or until he won (ala JP; but I knew you wouldn't repeat that story again)Thanks for these comments. I'm glad you could pick up on the foreshadowing and the build-up for James' boot. I also agree with you that it wasn't such a big "wow" thing as what happened on the real show. There will be one of those to come soon though - possibly next episode. Very good of you to realize the purpose for James winning all the Immunity Challenges --- it would make him more of a physical threat. Yes, I try not to repeat entire stories or ideas - sometimes little parts of one, but not the whole thing. 9.5 (I'm saving the 10 for next week, all season I've been waiting for the final six tribal council that Jeff Probst said would be the best one during the press conference)Thanks for the 9.5. I'm excited for the next episode too. I don't recall if I said it would be the "best" Tribal Council - there's another one to come that could rival it, but I know I said it would be dramatic and that will definitely be true. Well, here's the thing about Dave as far as I see it: he's actually done very few untrustworthy things that people are aware of and he hasn't really done any more backstabbing than anyone else. Going through all the people he voted for, Jaime wasn't in his alliance so that didn't matter, he voted for Sherea so he didn't betray anyone, he broke a word to Ashley because of her injury and other people voted her off anyway, plus she's not on the jury. He voted for Todd at the merge, and then Todd after that again. No betrayals there. Then Amanda. So he basically stuck with the Zhan Hu alliance all the way up to that point. Now he betrayed James, so that's one person who might be upset with him, but he kept his word to Leslie and Denise. No one knows about his two big lies obviously, but aside from lying to Frosti and saying that Leslie and Denise were threatening jury votes, I can't really think of another lie that he's told. I think he has an image of being ruthless more than untrustworthy (ie. burn down Fei Long's camp, don't feed Todd), so people really don't have reason to suspect it, I don't think. Maybe they will later, but not so much right now. I won't do ratings this week because I read the episode in two sittings. Messes up your perception of visibility and gives everyone a mixed tone...Oh, that's fine. I appreciate your thoughts on the contenders though. You make a lot of strong points. 1. Leslie- She's still the best pick out there, and her over-positivity seems intentional in order to create doubt in her edgic chances. That's a really interesting observation. I suppose the same could also be said for Sherea or Dave with their negative tones, if we're going to look at it that way. (3.) Erik- I think this is too little too late. When I got to Erik on the popularity poll, despite his reward win this episode, I still gave him a neutral 5 becuase I really don't care so much about where he ends up, and he seems somewhat boring still. It's good to know for my future reference that you still don't really care about him even when he had a strong episode... Thanks again for your comments. I enjoyed reading your thoughts. Hope you have a great day (or possibly night where you are)! :) |

So gff, sorry if you've already answered this, but have you decided what your plans are for the next season (if you're doing one)? Gonna have half the
cast people from your past seasons who you felt deserved a second chance and could really bring something and have half the cast some of your loyal readers ;)?
Just ask us for our pictures, and maybe an interview or two... =P! Haha, wouldn't that be unique?

COMMENTS & QUESTIONS
(A) What did you think of this episode? Please be as detailed as you can, wherever possible. -This actually is my fault if anyone's, but I accidentally scrolled to far down before clicking on the episode link. I saw James's faded head, so I knew that he was voted out. The episode was good, but it would've been better had I not known that James was voted out. I'll make sure to scroll down just far enough to only see the tip of the download link next time. (B) What was your overall favorite part of the episode? -I liked the movie reward, especially the theme of the movie. It definitely made me think about what (if any) clues were given during that scene. I guess I'll find out soon. (C) What would you rate this episode out of 10? (1 being the lowest; 10 being the highest) -7 (Would be higher, but a lot of the anticipation was lost, since I knew James was out) (D) Do you have any questions about this episode that you''d like to see cleared up in a future episode or at the Reunion Show? -Not right now 1. SOLE SURVIVOR POLL (A) Which castaway will be the Sole Survivor? -Leslie (the hidden dragon) 2. WHAT'S NEXT POLL (A) Which castaway will be voted off in Episode 11? -Dave's head will be on the chopping block for betraying Zhan Hu, but that will only be a distraction to SHEREA going home. 3. POPULARITY POLL (A) Please rate each castaway's popularity from 1-10. 1 is the lowest score, while 10 is the highest. Please try to base your ratings only on the likeability of the characters in my story, not how they appeared on the real show. Aaron - 5 Amanda - 8 Ashley - 9 Chicken - 6 Courtney - 3 Dave - 4 Denise - 4 Erik - 4 Frosti - 6 Jaime - 5 James - 5 Jean-Robert - 4 Leslie - 10 Peih-Gee - 5 Sherea - 2 Todd - 6 4. EDGIC POLL * For readers familiar with the concept of Edgic. For more information Edgic, please visit this thread: EDGIC (A) Once again, I would love to get some reader involvement in determining Edgic ratings. Please submit your own ratings in this thread. Rating: INV, UTR, MOR, CP, OTT Tone: NN, N, Mixed (M) , Neutral (), P, PP Visibility: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 Dave - CPN4 Denise - MORP3 Erik - CP4 Frosti - MOR2 James - OTTM3 Leslie - CPP4 Sherea - MORN3 (Almost OTT) 1) Based on Edgic, which Survivor(s) do you think have the best chance of winning? 1. Erik - Leslie has been the frontrunner for a while, but the positivity hurts her. We WANT her to win, but something Erik said struck me funny. He said "I don't know if I'm the crouching tiger". If he's not that, then he would be the hidden dragon. He has been somewhat hidden, but not nearly enough to eliminate him. His edit has been building up lately, leading me to believe he's going to end strong as the winner. 2. Leslie - She took a bit of a dip, but is coming back slowly. Will it be enough to lead to victory? I''m not thinking so. 3. Dave - The dark horse. 2) Based on Edgic, which Survivor(s) do you think are not eligible to be the winner, and are therefore "eliminated?" Frosti - For as important of a character he could be, he's been too neglected to be the winner. Denise - Too ignored I think Denise and Leslie are going to blindside Dave soon, if not next episode. He said that the only way he wouldn't make F2 is if he's blindsided, which leads me to believe that he will not make final two for this very reason. He will either be blindsided by Frosti/Leslie/Denise at F4, or he will be blindsided sooner by the entire tribe. This should be a good finish for China! I'm looking forward to it. |

Thoughts during the episode
-That comment at the end of the recap of "James/Zhan Hu are in control who will be voted out tonight" tells me that one of them is going home. -Dave and James shown as the providers, interesting comment by Dave though about would he even try to keep up with the workload as a provider if James is gone. -Dave's evil side is showing through again some. -Oh boy family visits, and Dave's big lie could explode in his face this episode that means, that'll be fun to read -Wow, Dave didn't get to go on a reward with his loved one, I thought for sure he would. -Dave's devious plan continues to go as planned so far it seems, but something's got to mess it up soon enough, or at least get him targeted from it -Hmm an endurance IC, this should be good, I'm guessing Sherea might go home, but I'm not too confident with that prediction yet. -Oh what great quotes from the fools in the dark "at least it won't be a surprise tonight", ROFL. -Great TC, James is obviously toast. COMMENTS & QUESTIONS (A) What did you think of this episode? Please be as detailed as you can, wherever possible. A little bit slow to start, and in some family visit scenes, but had some entertaining moments sprinkled throughout the more boring parts to keep it interesting. I was surprised by the lack of Dave in the family visit scenes, I thought for sure that he would win a family visit, and the family member would somehow screw up and out his lies, that's what I've been convinced would happen for a while now. Still it was good to see Dave return to his more evil and entertaining ways some this episode. I'm starting to get a feeling though that Dave is going to stab his tribe in the back some more, siding with Leslie/Denise and getting rid of the other 3 somehow the next few episodes, that would certainly make him face a really bitter jury. (B) What was your overall favorite part of the episode? People like James saying overconfident stuff like "at least there won't be any surprises tonight". (C) What would you rate this episode out of 10? (1 being the lowest; 10 being the highest) 8.75/10 1. SOLE SURVIVOR POLL (A) Which castaway will be the Sole Survivor? Dave 2. WHAT'S NEXT POLL (A) Which castaway will be voted off in Episode 11? Frosti 3. * Please factor in your own ratings for Episode 10 for the following questions 1) Based on Edgic, which Survivor(s) do you think have the best chance of winning? 1. Dave (I'm probably going to regret switching around my winner picks, but Leslie just went down for me this episode, leaving Dave as my new #1. Dave is the only one who's actually giving me a 'winner' feel now, the others just seem like potential winners from their edgic ratings. But at the same time he's been shown as too evil and N in the past to win it feels I'll admit) 2. Leslie (She's just getting way too P, and some of her quotes this episode really raised my suspicion about her, like how she'd give a million dollars to Erik) 3. Erik (He's been starting to raise up a bit later then I expected, since the first episode he had been giving me some winner vibes, but ever since the merge I haven't been getting any winner vibes from him anymore. The only way I can see him winning is as an "anybody but Dave/Sherea" vote) 2) Based on Edgic, which Survivor(s) do you think are not eligible to be the winner, and are therefore "eliminated?" -Frosti (Too quiet of a start, INV = death) -Denise (INV = death, she got some interesting attention earlier, but now she's just gotten too quiet) Probably Not Winning -Sherea (She's just got all the wrong tones for a winner, never a P one, so many N's, and involved in so many conflicts, her tone is what makes me put her down here this episode and off my winners list) |

Just ask us for our pictures, and maybe an interview or two... =P! Haha, wouldn't that be unique?I initially decided that I was going to write it with the actual cast, and then quite a few people suggested that I use "Favorites" from my own stories but keep Ami/Eliza/Jon, so I made a cast for that. Then I thought that it sortof didn't seem right to me to have the actual "Fans", so I constructed 10 made-up people to have as fans of Survivor (and my stories). But now I don't know if I will use them because I had already come up with some good ideas for the actual "Fans" tribe, so I'm still a bit unsure of what I'm going to do. My next season, unfortunately, won't premiere until the beginning of May so there's still time to decide and plan it out efficiently. And I actually did consider that idea a while back about having some of my readers, but I think it prove to be far too much of a challenge in many ways. Thanks for asking, BlakeB717. I usually don't put the new image up so soon, but I was updating everything else so I figured I might as well do it. I didn't think it was still so close to the top that people would see it, but it may depend on your monitor as well. Some people have the resolution set a lot smaller than mine, probably, so I will avoid doing that again in the future. -I liked the movie reward, especially the theme of the movie. It definitely made me think about what (if any) clues were given during that scene. I guess I'll find out soon.Thank you. I'm glad you liked the movie reward. I thought it was an interesting idea to fight in with this season. There were a few important lines during that scene, I think. -7 (Would be higher, but a lot of the anticipation was lost, since I knew James was out)Sorry that the ending was spoiled for you. -Leslie (the hidden dragon)Very good thought to try to connect someone to that line. I'm not sure if Leslie would be considered "hidden" though. Big thank you to you for your Edgic ratings. Great job on them. They're all extremely close to what I was going for in this episode. I would most likely give Erik a positive though. A very insightful thought on Erik there. Great job! Thanks for this prediction. We will have to see which way it goes. :) This should be a good finish for China! I'm looking forward to it.I also think that the rest of this season will be really good. I'm anticipating the best finale since Fiji (if Fiji was considered a 10, just for the sake of this comparison, this one should probably be considered a 9.5. The All-Stars finale was maybe an 8 or 8.5 by comparison). Thanks again for your comments. I enjoyed reading your thoughts and I appreciate you sharing them. Have a great day, and I will reply to your PM right now. Hello MasterDarkNinja. Thanks for commenting on the episode. I appreciate it! :) -That comment at the end of the recap of "James/Zhan Hu are in control who will be voted out tonight" tells me that one of them is going home.Yeah, I thought that someone would figure that out so I was going to get rid of it, but I liked the idea of adding something to the typical line "Seven are left. Who will be voted out tonight?" so I kept it. -Dave and James shown as the providers, interesting comment by Dave though about would he even try to keep up with the workload as a provider if James is gone.Dave's comment comes into play soon. I'm starting to get a feeling though that Dave is going to stab his tribe in the back some more, siding with Leslie/Denise and getting rid of the other 3 somehow the next few episodes, that would certainly make him face a really bitter jury.I made the initial scene very short because I didn't want it to drag on at the start, and I wanted to get right into the Reward Challenge. About Dave and the family visit: I couldn't find out Dave's father's name, who is the person that I originally wanted to come. That would have made the story go a little bit differently, because I planned on having everyone be really sympathetic to Dave's father (especially Sherea), and then the father POSSIBLY going "What are you talking about?!" and then it blows up. BUT, I also think Dave's parents might be divorced (although I couldn't confirm it), so it left too many questions for me and too many places where I could have done something inaccurate. There's still more to come from Dave. There's a purpose for both lies, not just the one about his mom. 8.75/10Thank you for giving it an 8.75! It's better than a 5, at least, but I'm happy with this rating. I was waiting to see what you thought of it and I'm glad that you liked it better than last week's. Thanks for doing Edgic ratings. Great job! :) Erik - CP(OTT?)P5I wondered if anyone would go for OTTP for Erik or Leslie. I thought those were possible ratings, but it seems that they both overwhelmingly got CP, which I'm fine with as well. Hmm. That's an interesting thought about the other ones seeming like winners by Edgic but possibly lacking the story/content to really be the winner. Great thoughts on all the other contenders/eliminated people as well. You always bring up great points. Thanks again for commenting. Hope you enjoy the rest of the story. Have a great day! :) Hi ImANewUser. Thanks a lot for commenting on the episode - glad you were able to read it! You're welcome. You're right about there being similarities - I kindof wish that I had James blindsided one episode before or one episode after, so that it didn't happen at the exact same time, but it seems to fit really well with what was going on in the story. And James definitely didn't see it coming. Neither did Sherea or Erik though, which could pose a problem. -->The whole movie Reward. Reminded me of my time when I played a fantasy Survivor game.Glad you enjoyed the movie Reward. :) I would like to see it again in a future season. -->9 (would've been 9.5 had James survived/the storyline had not that much similarity to the real show)Okay. Thanks for giving it a 9. I'm glad you liked it! :) -->Does Dave's mom know about the lie before the show aired?Very good question, and one that I haven't really thought too much about. I would imagine that he would tell her before the show aired, but possibly not before it filmed. So he might have constructed the lie without her permission but then told her before she saw it acted out. And surprise, another one of your favorites was voted out. So I guess that puts Sherea next on the chopping block if the pattern keeps up. Thanks again for commenting. Have a great day! :) |

In light of Blake's question, I've decided (95% sure) that my next season will be:
10 "Favorites" (Ami, Eliza, Jonny Fairplay + 7 from my stories) 10 "Fans" (All 10 of them are made-up people, new and unique characters) This way the season will definitely have a fresh feel instead of just being a repeat of what you just saw. I realize this will make it more of a challenge for people to "get into" the story because half of the people will be new, but I'm confident in my ability to create 10 characters that the audience will be invested in. I've had them in storage ready to use - I came up with them last summer, and I think it's an interesting way to keep my stories fresh. I'll use the real "Fans" for some other purpose later. Before I decide on this 100%, thoughts? Other ideas? Criticisms? Would you be just as interested in this story as any other one that I've written? Thanks in advance for the feedback. |

If you do go with the whole "create new fans" idea, would you be open to suggestions for potential characters? |

If you do go with the whole "create new fans" idea, would you be open to suggestions for potential characters?I'm going to have to say no. I have to create a certain dynamic with my choices, and I can only write for people that I can personally visualize in my mind. So the 10 new characters, I picture them all already, I can hear their voices, I know their background and personalities, and if other people suggested characters, I wouldn't be able to do that and it would be much more difficult for me to get their personalities across. I will say that a lot of fanfics I've seen in the past have outrageous characters where every single person has some kind of unbelievable backstory and that's not what I'm going for. I think my readers have known my work long enough to know that I go for realism, so I think you'll have no problems with the people I've come up with. Thank you for the question though, and I appreciate your interest. |

Do you have any plans for the ACTUAL group of fans, like for some future endeavor, or what?

Also, after looking at that visibility chart, I don't see how ANYONE can think Dave is still going to be the winner, based on Edgic. He's the second
most visible player in the game, only behind Todd. I'm surprised at the number of TCQs Erik's received compared to Leslie as well.

Do you have any plans for the ACTUAL group of fans, like for some future endeavor, or what?Yes, I have some other ideas of what I would like to use them for. There's one or two characters in particular that I would really like to write for. Also, after looking at that visibility chart, I don't see how ANYONE can think Dave is still going to be the winner, based on Edgic. He's the second most visible player in the game, only behind Todd. I'm surprised at the number of TCQs Erik's received compared to Leslie as well.I meant to point out that Erik's total visibility is actually higher than Leslie's! That took me by surprise when I was updating the chart. But just to play devil's advocate, Todd was the most visible person in real China (even more than James), and he ended up winning, so it's still possible. |

Todd was most visible of the players remaining. People like Chicken, Ashley, Dave, Leslie, and a few others were still more visible than him in the overall
rankings. Dave has no one higher than him except Todd.
ETA: Oh wait, that second chart is TOTAL visibility, not average, isn't it? ETA2: After averaging things out, Dave is still the third most visible player of the 16, barely getting beaten out by Jean-Robert for second place.
