I do think that Lucian has some experience in the fashion world already, but I'm not sure in what capacity!! I think he used to be a buyer and has shown one collection under his own label at fashion week! Either way,, I don't think that Rita knew him or knew of him from before. It's crazy huh?? That she could be so sold on him so quickly!! But so much of fashion is based on emotion and emotional response, and i think thats what happened in this case! Early in the show Rita showed a preference to Lucian and his sensibilities. Lucian is a "complete package",,,,he's handsome and charming, his clothes are very romantic and dramatic,,, he even accessorizes his clothes in a romantic and dramatic way!! Rita must have felt that he was the kind of talent that deserved to be rewarded because she had his back for the entire time.
Shawn on the other hand, didn't get Lucians vision and often said that he's seen it all before. Judging something like fashion is so objective and you should be judging with as open a mind as possible, but i think BOTH judges did have their favorites early on(more so Rita than Shawn). I know that the competitors took the judges critiques very personally,,,, if they said it was ugly, it was like being told you had an ugly child!! But having said that, I still didn't think their comment held any water. Might be a case of "you believe what you WANT to believe". For me, the only negative comments that actually meant anything were Imans,,,, I had alot of respect for her, her tastes and her experience, so if she said it was bad,, it was just CRUSHING to me. The other judges say bad things, and I was like ,,,"Whatever!! What do you know anyways??!!"
