1. Ronald & Christina (2nd) - The best parent/child team ever, and my favorite team after Azaria & Hendekea bit the dust. They were a surprisingly strong team despite Ronald's hernia and his tendency to lose his temper. I'm really sorry Christina self-destructed at the final Roadblock, because they'd have surely won if she hadn't.
2. Azaria & Hendekea (6th) - My initial favorite team. As an African-American man, I was very happy to see the first African-American team that could actually dominate after the disappointments that were Lenny & Karyn, Deidre & Hillary, Tramel & Talicia, the Blacks, Ray & Yolanda, and Lyn & Karlyn. (Frank & Margarita, Andre & Damon, Monica & Sheree, Chip & Kim, Gus & Hera, and Uchenna & Joyce, both times, were all great or decent, though, and Shola & Doyin had potential, but got screwed by the sand. Plus, Bilal & Sa'eed got screwed by the mid-leg elimination twist, so I can't count them as a disappointment.) I was rooting for them hard as they won three of the first four legs, and Hendekea hit Jennifer with the words she needed to hear -- that one can't be expected to just give up first if they have the chance to take it. If not for a woefully incompetent ticket agent, they'd have likely survived the Croatia leg and sent Nicolas & Donald home instead.
3. Kynt & Vyxsin (5th) - I loved the Goths. They were always appreciative of the experience and were constantly supportive of each other (the leg in Florence, Italy, notwithstanding). Kynt was a riot with taking the female role, and Vyxsin was a joy to watch despite having to be the man on her team rather than the woman. Kynt absolutely should've listen to Vyxsin about the U-Turn, and they'd have at least finished fourth or higher instead of going out in fifth. They probably even would've won!
4. Nicolas & Donald (3rd) - For the first-ever grandparent/grandchild team, they made it surprisingly farther than I'd ever expected they would. Nicolas was rather snarky and blunt with his observations, and Donald was very funny to watch each week, especially with him having experience in much of what they'd done throughout the race. If not for Nicolas totally botching the collection of their gear, they'd have had a better chance of winning the final leg.
5. Kate & Pat (10th) - The very first lesbian team. And minsters, to boot! Nice ladies. Really nice ladies. And nice that the show allowed them to kiss (and allowed said kisses to be shown, as well!), and I liked how truly in love they seemed. It's such a shame they weren't very strong racers (and the show had no problem highlighting their slowness). That made their early elimination not very surprising at all.
6. Shana & Jennifer (7th) - Dustin & Kandice they were not, but I found them greatly entertaining. They impressed me when they passed up FIVE TEAMS with their donkey on the first leg, and when Shana cleaned up at the Hoist It Detour and the ditch vaulting Roadblock on the second leg. I think they did better as racers than their seventh-place finish suggests. They did many of their tasks quickly enough, only to be felled by getting lost in Lithuania and panicking at the Count Down Detour. I think they deserved at least fifth place instead of seventh, like another poster said.
7. Marianna & Julia (9th) - Not much to work with, I know, but they weren't outright hateful like a few other teams were. Still, I remember their horrified expressions (or at least edited as such) when they witnessed Ronald's treatment of Christina in the Netherlands, and Marianna's quick completion of the ditch vault there. However, I most remember them for Julia screwing up with helping Lorena when she was having trouble with the camel in Burkino Faso. Nice girls, undoubtedly, but a very stupid move.
8. Lorena & Jason (8th) - I usually don't like dating couples. But these two were entertaining. I mean, Lorena's meltdown over the camel was cringeworthy, but interesting at the same time. Also, Jason at least wasn't a raging asshole like Colin, Jonathan, TAR7 Ray, Joseph, TAR10 Rob, and All-Stars Eric. Were it not for their huge time gap and subsequent U-Turning by Shana & Jennifer, they'd have made it farther. I'm glad they didn't, though, as young dating couples tend to make it way too far for my tastes.
9. T.K. & Rachel (1st) - Actually, I don't really hate these two at all. I actually did like them. But they're so low because I just liked the other eight teams so much more. They definitely knew how to run the race while staying calm and mellow, but there wasn't much going on with them in the way of there being anything really interesting about them. So, without much to go on, Rachel at least brought things home on the final Roadblock, and that resulted in their victory, and . . . good on them, I guess.
10. Ari & Staella (11th) - They gave me a complete Aaron & Arianne vibe when I first saw them (gay guy/straight girl best friends team). I didn't really hate them for stealing Ronald & Christina's cab (like the show probably wanted us to). It was laughing and high-fiving over it, and then lying about it to Ronald when he confronted them, that made me hate them. Add in the donkey meltdown, and that was enough to satisfy me when they were eliminated first. I'd have preferred Nathan & Jennifer to go first, but that first elimination was perfect.
11. Nathan & Jennifer (4th) - Nathan was pretty bad with his non-cursing that was so obviously for the cameras' benefit rather than his own, but Jennifer annoyed me even more with her harpy-like screeching, her spoiled, entitled attitude, and her shitty treatment of Nathan. For all fans of them: I don't care HOW passionate they were about the race. That gives them no excuse whatsoever to treat each other the way they did. And I didn't find their fighting entertaining one bit. I must thank the local who directed them to take the subway to the Detour rather than a taxicab in Taiwan. That kept them out of the F3 they didn't even deserve to make, and that was fine with me. I HATED these two with every fiber of my being and was glad they weren't in the finale to potentially ruin what was a very stellar season. Go FOAD, both of you. And all naive, brainless fans of them can do the same, for all I care!
