I went to the open casting call on January 20th in Shreveport, LA...it was my second casting call...unlike the first time I attended a casting call, there were
private screening rooms where they were filming the people separately...the first time I went 2 years ago, you had to do your "spill" in the open in
front of a room of people who are waiting in line...just before I taped my 2 minutes of self promotion, I asked one of the people working the event if it was
being conducted by local employees of the affiliate or whether they had actual people from SEG or Survivor there? He replied that it was only local people
conducting the event...of course, he could have been full of crap, but he indicated that casting has decided that it is no longer cost effective to send their
people out to all of these casting calls like they once did...he stated that the local affilitate picks up the tab of the event that they were going to collect
the tapes and applications and forward them to L.A. for consideration by casting...on a different note, i was surprised to see that most of the crowd (only 250
or so) were older wannabes...the group of people around me in line were all in their 50's...I'm in my 30's and didn't really notice too many
people who were my age or younger...that kinda surprised me....anyway, I guess we'll see how people will be selected for the 17th installment as the
application deadline is now only 2 days away...good luck to all who applied and attended open casting calls...

Thanks for the report. That is interesting that you saw so many older folks. Did they seem particularly fit or outdoorsy, or more couch-ish?
We have seen several folks from Louisiana on lately, so maybe they are paying more attention to applicants from that area... |

Hi Wezzie | ||

Well another Application Season goes by I miss all the Drama of the past. I like getting flames. I threw a tape in the mail anyway just to say I did. Not
expecting anything. I still like to throw a post up now and then but I am working a lot lately. Good luck everyone!!!

Did you all hear that CBS created a new division for unscripted TV, i.e., reality tv? Sweet Colleen is the head.
If you want to be involved in unscripted tv, now is a good time. Again, good luck y'all. |

Are game shows included in the unscripted TV category?
Maybe I'll go to a casting call just to watch this time and get a better pulse on the viewership. My application got FedExed today and I'm not expecting much either. I'm not so sure they want you doing both casting call and regular app either. The one thing I did notice was that all four of my video takes were more or less the same this time so I just went with the last because it took less time to rewind to where it started. Finally I can generate some consistency in front of a camera. This is probably the most expensive application for me so far. Before filming I noticed I needed a $3 battery for my camcorder so I drove down to the local drug store to get one. Unfortunately I ran off the road and into a tree on the way because of fresh unplowed snow. So add maybe $500-$1000 for a new front bumper and a grill and the $19 for FedEx and you've got a very expensive application. Rats. |

I didn't send one in. Maybe there'll be a casting call in NY, so I can make a fool out of myself again in person. Good times.

No Call Backs | ||
|
I am used to being ignored and treated like shit thats why I keep applying. That's why no one goes to the Dallas Casting call anymore. Boring entertainment
and no call backs. The people there hated it so bad they were rude made people wait when nothing was happening and then only gave you 60 seconds on tape. They
are not having one this year. Wonder why? Probably because they got real every day fans. It's kind of like people that go Deer hunting and never kill a
deer, they keep going out of tradition. Don't get don't mind having casting agents lumping me in with other uninteresting applications and boring
video. I actually have an interesting job even tho I hate it. I am kind of bored with the show lately to much production value not enough survival I liked
Borneo, Australia and Amazon the best. China sucked. Oh I am sure this is making them love me and want to put me on the show.

It's kind of like people that go Deer hunting and never kill a deer, they keep going out of tradition.Why don't you go ahead and go to the Dallas open call, and kill a deer for your tape? You could do that in 60 seconds, right? Not like gratuitously, like survivally... |

There is a casting call in Austin though. I think it was either today or yesterday. Hmmm

I drove out to the Austin call yesterday for kicks. It's a lot more fun than sitting at home in front of a camera and you get to meet people as nuts as
you!
What surprised me was several things: lots of older folks - 40 and above at least. Lots of n00bs around me that had never applied and didn't really watch the show regularly either. And, not a lot of people showed up, considering it ran for 4 hours. Maybe 200-250 tops, and they said they couldn't guarantee that the last few groups of people who arrived would get their two minutes. Faco - I went to that Dallas one - except I went to one that was last winter. Same set-up, except we got 3 minutes. Maybe they cut the time back to get everyone in? But yeah, I left with a bad taste in my mouth. None of the people, hosts and applicants included, seemed very excited to be there. I wonder as well if they didn't toss the vids in the trash. In Austin - it's all on consecutive tapes because they write down the start and stop time for each person. No individual tapes to watch. Which kind of sucks, because I ended up smack dab in the middle and that's a shitty place to be for memorableness! I'm convinced that if they're looking for YOU and YOUR TYPE, they will find you so it really doesn't make any difference what's in your app or on your tape. It's all a crap shoot. |

Dallas Casting Calls | ||

The last one In Dallas was in GP and in the summer. I went to the winter one as well. It was a lot different. The summer one sucked as I said most of the
affiliates skipped it and it was BORING. Then the insult that you only had one min for your video. Plus the people running it were bitchy. I think a lot of the
comments you read from Probst and Spillman have run off most the Fans and the fact that the people they pulled from here are loosers. I was really shocked how
few people there were because in the past there were Hundreds. Was a fun thing to go to. I worked this weekend couldn't go not worth turning down overtime
to send my mug to the bottom of a trash can. I sent a tape like always but learned early on that it's not worth getting your panties in a wad. More fun to
mess with people in here. Good Luck but don't quit your jobs!!!!

It looks as if CBS picked up Survivor for a 17th and 18th season, and also resigned Jeff Probst.
http://www.reuters.com/article/televisionNews/idUSN2852322820080129 LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - CBS has renewed "Survivor," ordering 17th and 18th installments of the long-running reality series. Additionally, Jeff Probst has signed a new deal to continue as host. The series' 16th edition, "Survivor: Micronesia," premieres February 7. Casting for "Survivor 17" is under way. "I still get excited to get on the plane and travel to another exotic location with another group of adventure-seeking, type-A personalities," said Probst, who has been host since the series' inception. "It is without question the best job I've ever had." The most recent installment, "Survivor: China," averaged 15.2 million viewers and a 5.1 rating/14 share among adults 18-49. While the franchise has been trekking downward in the ratings since its early heyday, it still dominates its time period, anchoring CBS' Thursday lineup. |

Mark Burnett was talking about Survivor 5, and hoping that the show will be successful enough so there will eventually be a Survivor 10. Here we are a week away from the airing of Survivor 16, and now know that the show will continue till at least 18. |
