Continuing the "best match I ever saw" theme... US vs. Sweden, 1982 Davis Cup Quarterfinals, St. Louis John McEnroe d. Mats Wilander - 9-7, 6-2, 15-17, 3-6, 8-6 6 hours 32 minutes, in the deciding 5th match of the round; US advances by a score of 3-2 Amazing. Just a staggering match. They were both running on fumes the final 2-3 sets. |

Rain delay to begin Saturday's play. They have two retractable-roof courts, though - Rod Laver and Vodafone - so play shouldn't be halted on those, I'd presume... but for some reason, 20 minutes after start time, no matches have yet begun.
Ah, I just rechecked before posting - the matches in those two venues ARE going, now. Yaaaaay!

Kirilenko is on the verge of taking Chakvetadze out. That would drop out the top 2 seeds from the bottom quarter, giving someone like Daniela Hantuchova a

I know your annoyance, Undies... Blake is just TANKING!! Down 2 sets to ZIP!! There's the 'mental attitude' thing rearing its ugly head once again. It still surprises me that a good number of players at this level don't control it. Nadal is THE master at just shrugging off the bad. He doesn't EVER seem to give up on a set, a game, a POINT... and that's what wins matches. |
