I generally don't care what movie wins best picture, because whatever. But I'd really like the Coens to take best director this year. They've made
so many great movies, and No Country for Old Men is one of their best.

I thought Atonement was amazing, along with all the stars, and its not the kind of movie I would normally love. I thought it seemed kind of like the English
Patient (which I thought was one of the most boring movies EVER), but was really blown away by it. The direction and cinematography was just amazing.
Ellen Page was robbed at the Globes. That Vie en Rose or whatever is neither a musical nor a comedy, and the bitch should've been nominated in Drama. Havent' seen Away from Her, so I can't comment on that, but I was hoping Angelina or Keira could've pulled off the win, if only to bring more attention to their movies. Angelina was great even if barely anyone saw that movie, and Atonement could have used the love. Oh well. |

Eh.. Golden Globes blew.
Quick rundown from what I've seen..possible nominations. Best Picture No Country For Old Men - great, great, great movie. There Will Be Blood - an amazing film. Atonement - it was very very meh. Book shats all over it. American Gangster - Denzel's the man, but Training Day (what?!), was A LOT better. Juno - Top 3 film this year, behind the first two I mention. If Little Miss Sunshine can get a nom, this surely should. Should get best original screenplay. Sweeney Todd - better than Atonement, but is it really deserving of a nod? No Country 80% chance. Best Actor DD Lewis, lock it up. Best performance in years. Viggo Mortenson also was teh badass, 2nd best. Lewis 100% lock. Best Actress Ellen Page, amazing. Marion Cotillard, didn't see the movie. But she's a great actress. Jolie as a spoiler/shocker? Pretty much just a 2 person, relatively weak race. Hope Page wins it. Best Supporting Actor Bardem, 100%. Next? Best Supporting Actress WGAS? |

The best actor needs a dark horse so Johnny Depp's win should bring him to that status but he probably won't win the oscar.
Please don't have Julie Christie win, lets stop giving the old farts 'thank you' oscars, just give the damn thing to ELLEN PAGE! Bitches. |

Producers Guild Nominations: The Diving Bell and the Butterfly Juno Michael Clayton No Country for Old Men There Will Be Blood There are your four of your five Oscar Best Pictures nominees. Atonement, Into The Wild, Sweeney Todd -- only one will get in The Diving Bell is the most vulnerable film, but Julian Schabel is a lock for director. |

Into the Wild should definitely get in. Hopefully.

I hope Into the Wild gets in too. I really thought it was a wonderful film. I was so disappointed in 'Atonement' but I get why G.G.'s wet
themselves over films like this. The book was so much better.
I have to disagree Bill, I thought that Julie Christie was excellent in 'Away From Her'. I don't care about her age, her performance is award worthy. (My heart belongs to Ellen Page; having said that!);) |

I saw Juno this past weekend and I LOVED IT. But...
Ellen Page is nowhere near the BEST ACTRESS of the year. Marion Cotillard should win, her performance is haunting. This is like last year when Abigail Breslin was nominated; great movie, but her acting was only noticed because of her age. And also everyone saying Johnny Depp is "due" for an Oscar. He's been nominated twice before. Peter O'Toole and Kate Winslet have 8 and 5 nominations respectively. And although that sucks, they shouldn't get acting Oscars "just because" |

I really really liked Julie Christie in Away From Her, but I cant help thinking that part of the appeal of giving her awards is because she is Julie
Christie, who is still a ravishing beauty and a throwback to old, more glamorous 60s Hollywood. In a sense, a win for her is very much like the one for Helen
Mirren, except that Julie already has one Oscar.
Its silly that we even have to compare her performance to Ellen Page's and Marion Cotillard's. All three deserve Oscars and frankly they should be the only nominees. Angelina Jolie was very good -- but very studied -- in A Mighty Heart and will get the fourth spot. Fifth spot is up for grabs and I predict goes to somebody off the wall -- Amy Adams perhaps, or Helena. Please, please, please God, no fucking Nikki Blonsky. |

Please, please, please God, no fucking Nikki Blonsky.Ugh, I agree. They'd only be doing it because she's different & cutesy. Like America Ferrera. |

I just saw 'There Will Be Blood', so I've seen most of the lead actors in many of the films and I'll be very surprised if Daniel Day-Lewis does
not win this hands down. He was excellent throughout. I loved hating him. I don't know why Paul Dano isn't considered for a s.actor nomination as
he's also very good in the movie.

Personally I think Paul Dano was very miscast in the role. Still he gave it his all.
There Will Be Blood should win Best Screenplay just for giving the world this line: YOU'RE NOTHING BUT AFTERBIRTH THAT SLITHERED OUT WITH YOUR MOTHER'S FILTH. YOU SHOULD HAVE BEEN PUT IN A JAR. |

Not having seen either film yet, I keep confusing No Country for Old Men with There Will be Blood. Is this happening to anyone else?

I'm sure I wouldn't get them mixed up if I saw them either. I'm a longtime fan of PT Anderson and The Coens. But for some reason, these films are melding together for me. |

For me its There Will Be Blood > No Country For Old Men.
People are reacting to No Country so positively because its just like Fargo and Blood Simple, however those two are better movies because they're entertaining. No Country is a 'serious' movie and there's little breathing room to enjoy it while watching it. To me its chief problem is that is VERY much a strict adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's novel; however in my opinion its one of his worst novels. The Coens do the very best that they can with it. I would have much rather seen what they would have done with Blood Meridian or even The Road. There Will Be Blood is over the freaking top half the time, but, more often than not, fantastic. |

I hated Blood Simple - it was boring. For me the best Coen Brothers drama is Miller's Crossing. I prefer their comedies.

Loved Blood Simple, Miller's Crossing, Fargo, No Country for Old Men, O Brother Where Art Thou, Raising Arizona, The Big Lebowski, The Man Who Wasn't
There.
Thought Intolerable Cruelty was silly, Barton Fink was meh and The Ladykillers sucked. |

for those discussing Paul Dano being miscast...
from imdb In an interview on the National Public Radio program "Fresh Air with Terry Gross," Paul Danotold Gross that he had originally been cast in the much smaller role of Paul Sunday, Eli's brother, and another actor had been cast as Eli. However, after Paul Dano had already started filming his one scene as Paul Sunday, Paul Thomas Anderson decided to replace the actor playing Eli. Anderson then asked Dano to play Eli Sunday (a much bigger role) as well as Paul Sunday, and they decided to change the film to make the brothers identical twins. Anderson asked Dano to play Eli on a Thursday, and filming for the role began four days later, on the next Monday. Daniel Day-Lewis, by contrast, had a whole year to prepare to play Daniel Plainview. |
