Acting, writing, directing, cinemotography. It reminds me a lot of The English Patient actually...in the type and scope the story.

Lately the Academy seems to be trending away from the traditional epics it used to favor. Crash, The Departed, and now with NCFOM/TWBB as the favorites this year, the Academy is getting "edgier" than in previous years. As I said in the other thread, I think Atonement will be this year's "Memoirs of a Geisha" or "Cold Mountain". Some technical nominations, but will get shut out in the big categories.

The ending? I don't believe that Keira Knightly was all that wonderful in it, but I do think Saoirse Ronan was brilliant. I ended up enjoying the movie, but my friends who didn't enjoy it seemed to think it shouldn't have been marketed as a sweeping love story for the ages.

I guess it's one of those stories u gotta read (At least thats what I'd recommend) And Keira Knightly and Mr. Tumnus had absolutely ZERO chemistry and the lil girl looked like she was playing she-Damien in OMEN RESURECTION or something

Daniel Day Lewis just won best actor at the Critics awards, and PT Anderson's movies are brilliant. (No Country for Old Men just won best pic, Coen's won best director)

I don't know where they dug him up, but he sucked...and he interviewed Marion Cotillard. It was embarrassing when he said "You play Edith Pilaf". He wasn't kidding.

When the Bridge to Tarabithia girl was being interviewed she said it was her first awards show and that blond bubble head laughed and said "She's a virgin!". Well, duh - she's like 14. awkWARD

Best Picture will have No Country and Juno, with likely Atonement and There Will Be Blood as well (I don't count Atonement out) I'm crossing my fingers for a Sweeney Todd fifth spot. Actor will include Daniel Day Lewis of course, George Clooney, and Johnny Depp. Don't count out Viggo Mortensen. I expect to see one of James McAvoy or Ryan Gosling. Actress is almost locked, it'll be Marion Cotillard, Ellen Page, Julie Christie, and Angelina Jolie. The last spot will go to Cate Blanchett most likely, but I could see it going to Keira Knightley as well since they loved her in Pride and Prejudice. Crosses fingers for Amy Adams Supporting actor is the most locked. Hal Holbrook, Javier Bardem, Tom Wilkinson, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Casey Affleck. Supporting actress is a tight race. Amy Ryan and Cate Blanchett are locks, and one will win. Tilda Swinton could upset. Also expect Saoirse Ronan and Catherine Keener/Ruby Dee/Vanessa Redgrave.
