Wow. So Truck/Joel just sent me a nice long message on MySpace. I asked a few simple questions and he gave me very detailed answers. What a cool guy he is! You
all will love some of his thoughts. Here are a few reasons why every suckster should like this dude:
1. He is anti-mactors. "I personally do not agree or like the actors that get on the show, or people perverting the show into a stepping stone for their hollywood career. naturally other opportunities will come and should be taken advantage of. but for that to be the objective when getting on just removes the authenticity, in my opinion." 2. He likes interested Survivor characters. "I think Ethan was a good player from season 3. As far as entertainment value I love players like Fairplay and Penner. I like Tom, he flew under the raidar and then won almost everything and he is a fellow fire fighter. I think Todd had a very clear understanding of how the game should be played and made a strong alliance early, best thing someone can do." 3. He is a REAL fan. "I have been watching since season 1 with richard. I don't get to see every single episode of every season because my schedule as a firefighter and I can't afford things like tevo and stuff like that. I am definately a fan, just have never gotten involved with all the extra stuff on the side. Some of the guys and I at the station would escape to one of the captains offices to watch the show, but would usually get interrupted by running calls." He said quite a bit more about how he wanted to play the game, and stuff like that. He is an all-around good guy, and I hope he does very well! I can't wait to see him in action. |

While the family comments are great or whatever, how fucking hard is it for a dad to say he loves his family?
Dude, your family won't win you the million, your strategy will, THAT is what I'm hoping to see play out here. -SJ™ |

Strategy is boring... Honestly, to see people strategize all day long is not my idea of entertainment. Human emotions are what drive the show. Strategy is the
good after part that you can talk about with friends by the water cooler, it's the real human side that makes the show watchable.

Your opinions are slowly getting worse and worse, put down the booze dude, there are a million studies out there concerning the effects of alcohol on the
teenage brain.
Strategy decides the winners, I enjoy strategy and those who think their way to the top, it fascinates me but thanks for telling me how I should view Survivor! -SJ™ |

Well, when you respect players who use the strategy to backstab everyone and then expect to get votes in the end...

Poody does have a strong point considering the 2 most dominant strategists(Earl,Brian) happened to win the most universally hated seasons.

My point is that Todd played with no regard to the jury. He just so happened to luck out because Amanda fucked up in jury questioning since she was feeling
guilty about Denise.
Honestly, the Jury was invented to prevent people from backstabbing everyone and just being handed one million dollars. Todd winning goes against everything the game stands for. |

As has been made clear, the jury was never voting for Amanda, she simply furthered their view that she didn't do anything. I also think Tom Westman was a
really good strategist because they had 2 shots at taking him out, and didn't do it. 2 clear shots at the CLEAR winner, yet his social strategies paid off.
Good point though about Brian and Earl, though I'd have to say Earl was at least more inspiring than fucking Yul. -SJ™ |

I just don't respect the backstab game. To me it's really easy making promises to everyone and breaking them along the way, any idiot can do that. It
takes skill to do pick and choose the right times to backstab and to actually consider the jury when playing the game. I didn't see Todd factoring in the
Jury when he played the game. Granted, his final jury performance was great, and I applaud him for that... I don't think the decision should be based on
the final question and answer, and I don't think Todd played the game keeping the jury in mind.

Backstabbing just to do so usually lands people someplace between 14th and 7th. However, it is just as valid a strategy as anything else when done properly.
You are not playing with your friends, you are trying to defeat total strangers for an amount of money people literally kill and die for. Blindsiding and
backstabbing, while maybe not the nicest most glory filled way to victory, as absolutely valid. Read the Art of War, ffs. Attaining advantage is everything,
even if it means screwing people who believed in you. Oh well, then that makes them stupid for believing in somebody during a game where only ONE person can
win. I feel if you got on Survivor, despite what you say here, you'd backstab in a heartbeat if it furthered your game. I sure would. Lie, cheat, backstab,
intimidate, whatever it took to win.

No I totally would. And if you look Amanda did, Tina did, everyone did. It's not a matter of backstabbing... I just think jury should be the main goal when
playing the game. Granted, it all means nothing if you don't get to the end... but I think great game play involves playing the jury as well, the most
important part of the game in my eyes. I don't think Todd was a bad winner... it was obviously a lifelong dream of his. I just don't respect him as
highly as others do.
I will say that I think he played a hell of a lot better than Brian. |

Brian was never questioned, and he never let them be alone long enough to question him. The game was different then I'd have to say. Point about jury is
valid, because anybody NOT thinking about jury at merge is not playing to win. I simply am saying, I would already expect to totally scumbag people and have
them walking out of TC feeling stupid for being voted out, and have my social strategy set where every TC after would be an open forum to campaign for votes
without seeming to do so. People CAN handle being backstabbed, they just need a reason to get over themselves. A player who already knows they are going to
screw people should totally have a strategy for how to get those votes in the end. I do believe Todd stuck to this strategy as well, knowing he needed to get
to the end with people around him where he could say "yes I screwed people and that was my game, I played to win".

Strategy and entertainment are equally important. The entertainment keeps me watching during the episode, and the strategy makes me want to keep watching.
Plus sometimes the two combine into some beautiful moments. (Edgardo and James boots, anyone?)
After reading that stuff about Joel, he's looking even better and better. Should be a blast to watch. |
