I know it's fans vs. faves, but they could have easily cut out Amanda or Parvati and JFP or Ozzy and made it 16. Maybe they wanted to stretch it out. And I don't know what the need for EI is... kidnapping would be interesting, especially with the fans mingling with faves.

Also, with one tribe full of people we already know (and a rumored 2 hour premiere), It shouldn't be all that hard to get the audience acquainted with the newbie tribe. I suspect that S17 will likely go back to 16 people. But for a "special edition" like this one, I don't think 20 people is a bad thing, as long as they've found a way to do double boots in an interesting manner and mix up the pre-merge enough to keep us from going comatose like in CI and Fiji.

What makes it boring is that it's in every episode and the footage is pretty boring. They need to pull it out a few times each season, but make it EXTREME. As for the HII's, keep them separate from EI but don't make them such a huge focus of the show, just an interesting subplot at most.

It was as if the HIIs were the content of every confessional, conversation, and what not, but then someone completely random was booted (such as the JR boot episode). If they can avoid this somehow by using exile island, then I won't complain. One good thing about an oversized cast is that it leaves the possibility open for an early merge, like at 12 or something, which I've been dying to see for a while now. It would throw strategy on its head, and usually post merge is better than premerge. I don't want to sit through another god knows how many episodes of premerge like with CI/Fiji.

Hopefully they don't have more than one double boot and just stretch the season out for longer. Anyway, exile island was a good idea as a one off thing in Palau, but when used in almost every episode it gets boring. Its the same thing over and over - someone talks about how hard it is, reads clue, looks for idol - it's just boring. At least with the kidnapping there is a great potential for new alliances to be formed between members of both tribes and the weaker members get a chance at the clues.

There'd definitely be some worthy dynamics/footage there.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Micronesia is 14 episodes with a one-hour premiere (although I suppose it could change). I actually don't mind the increased cast size this time around; you want to include as many favorites as possible and 18 wasn't a possibility because of genders. It could be 16 and I still think the rookies would get the editing shaft no matter what. But yeah, S17 better be back to 16 players like Probst alluded to. Preferably with a final two since the first half of the China finale was a bit slow.
