I didn't say anything about whether I believed in global warming. I made the point that if you don't believe in global warming, it is the biggest, most successful conspiracy in human history. Enough scientists conspired to convince enough politicians to buy into it. I bet you couldn't even get 175 countries to sign a statement acknowledging the Holocaust. For once in human history a truly global conspiracy was actually pulled off. That's pretty damn impressive. And it was scientists, of all people, who were able to do it. |

Apparently the Bali conference came to an agreement to make agreements in the future. Whether you're fer'it or agin'it the politicians do what
they do best: kick the can down the road. Probably because there aren't any great technical solutions available to lower greenhouse gas emissions
dramatically as the politicians hope.
Yet the EU commissioner for the environment Stavros Dimas told New Scientist this morning that the text was a "breakthrough" and that "with or without numbers we have a strong pathway which in two years will lead to an agreement which we hope will be effective in the fight against climate change". I think what the NewScientist Environment blog needs is a lot of wisdom from the OT crowd. Go ahead, make their day. |

And it was scientists, of all people, who were able to do it.Actually you are (surprise) wrong again No scientist (well real ones anyway) will ever say "the debate is over" on any subject, such as is being bandied about about this one. It also seems you've forgotten the group think culture of the UN. |

So then the global warming controversy is not a world wide conspiracy to dupe the globe into wrecking their economies with unneeded emmissions regulations?

See? That's what pisses me off most about these hypocrites. It's okay for them to have 30,000 square feet of house, but you're supposed to leave as small a "footprint" as possible. It's okay for them to use tens of thousands of kilowatt hours of electricity per month, and fly private jets, but you're supposed to take public transportation to work. And don't even get me started on the luxury digs they chose for this "event." |

It's okay for them to have 30,000 square feet of house, but you're supposed to leave as small a "footprint" as possible.Did Al Gore actually say this to you? Does he come to you in your dreams and tell you what to do?
Has anyone noticed the Bali Conference logo? It's supposed to be white and colored people holding hands but it looks like they're arm wrestling. And the melting ice is covering a third of the planet and looks like global cooling instead of warming. |

Reuters made the observation, not I.
Here's Al Gore's Nobel speech watched by millions (video and text). Not once does he say to anyone to change their light bulbs or take public transportation. http://pbrla.blogspot.com/2007/12/al-gores-nobel-speech-video-and-text.html |

So I'm the only person here who believes its better for future generations live in a free society where the government doesn't tell them how to live
their lives than a future where massive government intervention in people's lives helped to make the earth warm only 75% as much as would happen if nothing
was done?
It's sad to see I'm the only person here who cares about future generations enough not to support expensive and futile attempts to control the climate at the expense of our freedom. Think about your children, and their children and stop being so selfish as to support useless crap like Kyoto. |

Announcement: Ecological Debt Video Contest Now Open!
11/29/2007 06:51 PM
Telling a complex story in an interesting way is challenging. Leonardo Di Caprio and Al Gore did it. And so can you! The recent documentaries about environmental degradation, the depletion of resources, and climate change showed the power of video to help people to understand scientific concepts. October 6th marked Ecological Debt Day - the day when humanity has consumed all the resources the planet will produce this year. Currently, we are using resources 30 percent faster that they can regenerate - we are living in ecological overshoot and contributing to a mounting ecological debt. After concluding our successful media outreach campaign for Ecological Debt Day, Global Footprint Network has partnered with Planet2025 Network and EPA Victoria to launch an online Ecological Debt Video Contest. The contest asks participants to submit short videos about the challenge of ecological overshoot, and will be running until the end of January 2008. There are many ways of communicating this somewhat simple concept. And this is where you can help! By participating in the Ecological Debt Video Contest you can show your skills as an amateur or professional video maker. In 2-3 minutes your video clip should address the questions: What is overshoot? And why does it matter? For the next two months you can submit videos, vote on submissions, and encourage others to participate in the contest as well. Videos will be judged and prizes will be awarded in February. Please contribute however you can - this is a great opportunity to visualize and expand the public conversation about overshoot, and help us get new ideas about how to communicate the most important issue of our time. Together, we can envision a path towards living within the means of one planet.

Here's Gore's latest speeches in Bali (video and text), watched by millions. He missed another great opportunity to nag people to trade in their Hummer
for a Prius and carpool to work.

Oh, SF, I'm so sorry. Perhaps I'm overly sensitive toward hypocrites, from having "reduce your carbon footprint" drummed into my head.
Example:
Responding to Drudge's attack, Vice President Gore's office told ThinkProgress: Another example, from the Guardian, May 31, 2006:
And gems like these pop up from time to time, such as ... um .. the night Gore won the Oscar:

How would eating less meat help with global warming? Animals emit CO2 into the air. If anything, killing animals to eat would help the situation. Eating plants
that would otherwise utilize CO2 is worse.

Why don't at least half the population kill themselves. Do we need over 1billion each in India and China?
