No N's for Courtney? No P's for Todd? Seriously? Courtney's impersonation was humorous, sure, but it was oh-so-wrong. I mean, that's a taboo subject to make fun of, and she really crossed the line, in my opinion. I think it was supposed to come off as wrongly funny to the viewing audience, but to make sure we know Courtney is a bitch. And as for Todd, no P? Seriously? But Amanda gets one??? He didn't have any N drawback and we saw him as the loyal one trying to stick to the alliance and being trusting of Denise and his allies. Not to mention the family visit and sympathy we get toward him. |

Todd and Courtney are locks to go before the jury.
Reason: Not only are they both now in positions of power, but the editors have included ample information regarding what the jury members think about them. Courtney is connected to JR and Frosti Todd is connected to James and JR Both have been foreshadowed by other players (JR) as being threats in the game. The other three all have things that both persuade and dissuade me to think that they comprise the third member of the final 3. Amanda- OBSERVATION- The editors seem to be trying to make her look like more like a power-player than she really seems to be (relegating her airtime to mostly strategy-related things, editing out all her barbie-doll sayings). PRO AMANDA FINAL 3- The editing might be attempting to make her look like a more justifiable final 3 candidate (as opposed to just riding Todd's coat-tails). She has an alliance with Todd/Courtney. She's been shown to be connected to one member of the jury (Erik) and she's foreshadowed what her Final 3 experience might be like (the scene with the cave last episode when Todd/James/Courtney all stayed in the cave and Amanda greeted the other three). CON AMANDA FINAL 3- She has absolutely no personal story. It's been heavily hinted that she plots against Todd. Peih-Gee OBSERVATION- Has been given a great underdog edit (where she remains a complex character despite the ease to turn her into something entirely sympathetic). PRO PEIH-GEE FINAL 3- Her edit, mainly. She's had a wealth of 'I'm fighting as hard as I can' quotes, she has plenty of connections to the jury (James, Erik), and the previews hint at a camp schism. Her storyline parallels Todd's in that both have been shown to be the competing strategists, with Peih-Gee trying to break Todd's alliance. Fated to confront each other final three? JR predicted her as the most dangerous player. CON PEIH-GEE FINAL 3- Besides not having an ally, her "this is the proudest moment I've had on survivor" speech last episode reeked of "well, I didn't win, but look what I accomplished despite overwhelming odds". That, and she'd win a jury vote hands-down, and Todd mentioned it. Denise OBSERVATION- Jeff's tribal council quote of 'are you going to go up against the best, or vote them out' seemed out of place in the context of what they were talking about during the rest of tribal council (alliance structure, the totem-pole effect). PRO DENISE FINAL 3- Jeff's tribal council quote could be construed as directly foreshadowing Denise in the F3. If the game comes down to strategy vs likability (as is the theme of many survivors), then she is the main 'likability' person. CON DENISE FINAL 3- Jeff's quote might be up there as a red-herring to help make the F4 at least a little more interesting. Denise has been shown to have no drama (either good or bad) with anyone on the jury. Rather, we get the information filtered through Todd and Amanda. Todd said he wouldn't allow it. PREDICTIONS: If I had to venture a guess, I'd say Peih-Gee goes next episode and Denise after that. Jaime- TOSSUP JR- Todd/Amanda (seems like the person who rewards strategy. has had beef w/courtney) Frosti- Courtney James- Todd (respects his strategy) Erik- Amanda Peih-Gree- Amanda Denise- TOSSUP In this scenario- either Amanda or Todd The only other way I see this working out is if somehow Amanda goes next episode and Denise the episode afterwards. Jaime- PG JR- PG Frosti- PG/Courtney James- Todd Erik- PG Amanda- Todd Denise - tossup This could end up a tie jury vote (3-3-1). |

No P's for Todd?Todd's edit OTOH was mostly straight forward. Here's Todd playing the game. Here's Todd having a moment with his sister, sad and sweet, but still just a moment in the scope of the edit. Then Todd goes back to playing the game. No N's for Courtney?Rosanne Barr and Shirley Hemphill are joining Louie in the "Lighten Up" chorus. Seriously, just because in the opening episode, she wasn't little Miss PC gushing "I love the culture I'm being exposed to, even if inside I think the ceremony is hokey, but I can't admit that because somebody on the Internets might disapprove of me if I do, so I'm going to hold my tongue and smile like an idiot.", is no reason why every single little wisecrack of hers has to elicit a response of ZOMG!!!!! She's the next Fairplay!!!!! She's the evilest thing on Survivor since that bitchy sidekick of Lisi, whatshername!!!!! OTTNNNNNNNNN!!! She had an inconsequential wisecrack that made the editors say, *chuckle* "We have to use that. It was amusing." She didn't have enough impact on the episode to be N. She was under the radar, and neutral.

Well, here I am again popping in with information about "survivor virgins" watching the show with me. This week, I watched with two friends
who've never seen the show. One of them disliked the show's concept in general, saying something along the lines of "I don't like all this
alliance business. I'd just vote out the person who sucks!") But the other made some interesting commentary on each of the remaining contestants:
Denise- she LOVED Denise, and wants her to win. She thinks everything about her "story" (possibly read: edit) is positive and uplifting. She does realize, however, that Denise made a pretty stupid move this episode, and pretty much knows she won't win. Todd- she also really liked Todd, and she recognizes him as the one who "looks like he could win." She didn't find him negative at all-- a little devious yes, a little scheming, but positive overall. Amanda- she was consantly amused by the blurred ass. Other than that, she didn't really have much to say other than she was pretty. Courtney- her main deal with Courtney was her skinniness... but she did find her very funny and quite outrageous, and she did like her. She said Courtney seemed a little strategic as well, but not as much as Todd or PG. PG- here's what's interesting to me: my friend didn't like her... really, at all. Keep in mind my friend has never watched survivor, much less any of this season. She did, however, find herself rooting for her by the end- when she won the challenge, and when she tried to flip Denise. Seems to me that for her, PG is an overall negative character with some good positive moments thrown in (read: PG was M this episode). So, I thought I'd throw this out there again-- I think it's quite interesting. I love this forum; I'm a little late for doing edgic this season, but perhaps next time I'll join in. |

The thing with Todd is that the way it was presented, the audience was left in the dark about whether Todd would lie about something like that, and we were
meant to think that yes, perhaps he could. Even Todd acknowledges that others are probably thinking that. The fact that the situation was genuine after all
doesn't really remove that taint in my opinion. Trying to preserve an alliance that favors himself (and which the audience in general wants broken up) is
not a positive attribute. Plotting against Denise is certainly not positive, and I can't help believe that we were intended to hope that Denise forced the
tie.
Of course, I'll admit I tend to discount the sappy positive moments of the family visit since nearly every player gets them to some degree. |

Peih Gee - CPN4 They showed her absorbed in her own self pity. She picked Denise to go on the reward because she wanted to try and get Denise to flip to her side. Not because she liked her. Denise did what she thought was best for her strategically. We got another IC challenge favoring PG. I have to agree with Apolla Italiano's little brother, I totally hated her after that edit. Visibility - Very weak 4

I went shopping through Erik the Virgin's Records and I saw this in the new releases department. The soundtrack, Survivor : China - The Musical. Here are a few choice selections.
She was working as a waitress back in NYC. Now she's on Survivor : China headed for the final 3. She won immunity when all she had to do was sit on her fanny.
Bitch about her alliance in the Fei Long cave. At the ceremony she couldn't behave. She'll win bucks! She's in flux! J.R. sucks! This ain't Aras' Courtney.
Who would've guessed, just as J.R. described, This munchkin is the luckiest girl alive?
Now can she win the jury? (Maybe, CL!) She ate burgers in a hurry. (OTTN's swell!) She's a size negative four and she flirted with the Frosti man. Survivor China's Courtney And her daddy, named Graham!

Time and again in the Edgic predictions, the call on Amanda seems to be "I don't really see it, but I cannot eliminate her yet." Meanwhile, others, according to Edgic principles, have racked up disqualifying happenings.
She has won more individaul challenges than anyone. She wins every challenge that asks questions about China (whether this is a bias or not is another story). She almost certainly would go into F3 with Erik and Jaime's votes already in the bag, leaving only 5 to split three ways, and there are two pissed-off Fei Long's who got blindsided and will likely hold it against Todd and Amanda.
More importantly, colleenlover, all five got focus in the Temple scene (counting PG's confessional right before, which was a doozy)! Leslie is the only other featured one from the Temple who is not still here, and THAT was even forecast by her "leaving it behind"!
And as the lightest person, she has a big advantage at a balancing/endurance challenge, which the odds show F4 will be.
I agree about keeping Denise away from F3, but I think she is more Teresa than Kathy--the "Sweetheart, over-40 edition".
I'm still very curious as to how this would be handled. Would Jeff say it's a tie but not say between whom, and make them vote a second choice? Or would the "1" be put in the position of deciding a $1,000,000 between two people neither of whom was hir first choice? Only the Probst knows...
That was so CLEARLY edited to mimic the Fairplay stunt, from the whispering to Jeff's question, etc., and of course EVERYONE watching thought of that. Todd, unlike Fairplay, didn't seem (to us) all that shaken by it (miscarriages happen, quite frequently, especially at only 2-3 months). And, she wasn't making fun of the miscarriage, she was making fun of Todd's REACTION to it, and even then, only after Erik said flat-out that he didn't believe Todd. |

Trying to preserve an alliance that benefits you is somehow N? Please. Everyone who's in a semi-long term alliance is doing exactly that. They're in it because it's in their best interest. Everyone is trying to win. He didn't "plot against" Denise so much as discuss with Amanda (and their two 'loved ones') the best F3 to give them the best chance at winning. I certainly don't call this P stuff, but it's Survivor Basic Strategy 101, and tonally neutral. Would it have been fun/interesting if Denise had switched? Sure. I love those moments. |

No, but it isn't P either as someone earlier tried to suggest. How is saying that Denise is out at F4 not plotting against Denise, especially when later he starts guilt tripping her into not improving her position. Again, it isn't really negative in the sense that this is a game, but it certainly doesn't paint a positive portrayal for the episode. |

TLS. Fine. We agree. They are tonally neutral acts. I just didn't recall anyone saying that he was P for all the basic plotting/scheming that he did.
I suppose the "plotting against Denise" statement is more a matter of perspective. He was figuring out the best way for him to win, and it meant person X goes at F4, which in this case happens to be Denise in his scenario. To me, "plotting against" is a blindside and more personal - or when you're going against your alliance as a whole, or when the people someone trusts turns against them. See JR and James, with JR more clearly a "plot against." The James boot had a more honest strategic side to it. Neither bothers me in the slightest in terms of game play. In fact, I can only think of a few times i thought a strategic play was distinct ly P or N. Cerie comes to mind, because her brilliant 3-2-1 strategy was actually part of her story arc (the lady afraid of leaves becomes a truly great player and "survivor.") What Todd is doing is just basic run-of-the mill stuff by comparison, and thus neutral. |

Warrior, Peih-Gee had N moments, but she wasn't N overall. She had the negativity towards Denise, but it's justified, because she DID give Denise the
one reward she wanted more than anything, and then Denise just gives a reward to Todd and Amanda, who're planning on betraying her in the same episode.
Peih-Gee even gave a positive confessional about Denise, saying she respected the fact that Denise at least talked with her and tried to explain, which is more
than what we've seen in previous decisions. Peih-Gee then had the fact that there was no negative SPV against her, and her positive comments about winning
the challenge and being the underdog. She's a solid M, closer to P than N, if anything.
