Erik clearly is NOT aligned with PG at this point and is in "every man for himself mode". Still James was incredibly stupid looking at each vote on it's own. His strategy should've been simple at this point, since he couldn't use it at the final 4 to make final 3 (I'm pretty sure that's true), he would simply need to win one out of next three individual immunities. Since he didn't win this time, he shoulda use the hidden idol, counting on his physical prowess to win one of the next two instead of overly trusting his alliance. -QG

Pissed off of course, Todd's group then would've switched their votes to PG, and James probably would have used the idol in that case.

If Erik knew 100% Todd would be the one to go, which he could and should have planned for if PG let him know she was going to tell James to use the idol in front of everyone right after the votes were read.

You yourself aren't even sure if he can't use it for final 4... this is assuming they know it's a final 3 instead of the regular final 2. Not to mention, James hadn't won a single individual challenge in the merger, they've all been mental or balance. Personally I think James did the right thing. He gambled, but it was a smart gamble. There were 2 players that were on the outs, and the person who was about to go home was hated very openly by the entire tribe. If he was going to gamble on a night to not use the idol, this would be it.
