Season 2 - top 32 contestants

I wonder if this includes the Wildcards that were not Top 32. Probably does.

I do wonder why the Top 44 can't audition again. It's not the public would actually remember them....

Bailey made it to Hollywood, but got cut during the group performances. Based on the rules, she is eligible to compete again.

Bailey tried out again but then was signed by Universal or someone before she went back for her second audition. So she already has a record deal and won't be seeing Simon, Paula, and Randy.

Eliza is dating AFed and she was interviewed by Kim C. on the TVGuide Network. Shr sang with him at his solo concert last fall and is supposed to have a lovely voice (according the the AFans).

She's very striking and exotic; I'll try to find a picture.

They attended the opening of Grease. There are some pictures at http://www.broadwayworld.com/viewcolumn.cfm?colid=20801, but I'll post them to save you the agony of seeing Constantslime's ugly sneer.

New Change for American Idol: Contestants Can Play Instruments

And you thought that American Idol contestants' singing was entertaining....

Executive producer Nigel Lythgoe has announced that contestants will now be able to play instruments during their acts, the New York Post reports.

Other changes in store for the next season (which debuts on Fox in January):

• Fewer celeb mentors - like Jennifer Lopez and Gwen Stefani - will appear on the show, to avoid taking attention away from the contestants.

• In a possible bid to boost the fledgling sales, the annual summer Idol tour may be combined with the So You Think You Can Dance? tour.

The Idol season is already underway.

"We just finished auditions," Randy Jackson told at the 2007 Angel Ball in NYC October 29.

At the end of the month, 160 candidates will be whittled down to just 24 by judges Jackson, Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul in Hollywood.

So how were auditions this year?

"Crazily good," Jackson told Us.

Allowing instruments is a good move, as it allows several genres (Rock especially) that you can normally get by with just an above-average voice a real shot in the competition, because being able to play and sing is impressive.

We better not see a Norah Jones/Alicia Keys wannabe on the piano though.

Is it American Idol time already? Dozens of Season 7 contestants have been congregating daily at the Orpheum Theater in downtown Los Angeles for Hollywood week. Among the hopefuls? Fantasia's older brother, Ricco Barrino, who auditioned in Dallas with the gospel standard "A Change Is Gonna Come." No doubt, talent runs through the Barrino blood (K-Ci and JoJo of Jodeci fame are cousins of Fantasia's), but sadly for Ricco, his time in the spotlight was brief. The 27-year-old High Point, NC, native was cut after his first call-back.
