Hey guys, thanks again for watching The Race 2. Just thought I'd address some of the questions / comments you posted here...
Episode 4 was so fucking awesome.
Thanks so much for all the great comments! Very flattered! I'm pretty sure that episode 4 alone is the best video work I did in my entire college career. I agree that TAR has gotten a bit lame and too formulaic lately, and I think a lot of it has to do with the challenges. They're so simple and straightforward that there's very little potential for strategy, manipulation, alliances or backstabbing...the lifeblood of reality tv. TAR challenges lately tend to be things like "ride a zip-line across an abyss," "or walk an obstinate donkey up a trail"... They work well for reality tv because they're simple and easy for an audience to understand, very visual, and tend to be frustrating if you take the wrong approach or get unlucky with the wrong animal...but I always prefer the more open-ended challenges where there's a lot of potential for different approaches, thinking outside of the box, and mistakes. Who knows, maybe I'll be able to get a producer job on a big network reality show and come up with some more exciting challenges. Hal and Mathilda fucking rock! Wish they could be on the real Race but are they citizens?Hal & Matilda are citizens... their family moved to the U.S. a few years ago, and they live here full time now. I think they would be great on the real show as well! I wish a giant ACME anvil would just fall from the skies and crush the Mohawk team.I think Dave & Matt are some of the most interesting reality tv characters I've ever seen (and I'm not saying that just because I cast them!) They're such great villains because they know how to push all of the right buttons. Maybe a little bit too well, because after the night at the church, teams were threatening to quit the show if they weren't penalized...even though they literally did nothing to them except for screw with their minds, heheh. After The Race 2, I was talking with them about making a new series called "The Chase" where we get a bunch of teams together and tell them it's a race, but Dave & Matt are planted by the producers to just screw with everybody and get under their skin...kinda like Joe Shmoe meets The Mole meets The Amazing Race. It could be interesting! Why was the finale so short and involve so much running? Still, what a great series. <3 Hal and Matilda. It was a two-part finale... leg 5 and leg 6 originally aired together as one 90-minute block (hence the "To Be Continued.") I decided to split it up for the internet version because most people don't like sitting and watching a quicktime window for 90 minutes straight. I am really looking forward to The Race 3. Unfortunately, there's probably not going to be a Race 3... I was the producer / director / lead editor of the show, and I graduated from in May. It looks like nobody is crazy enough to take on the series (I don't blame them... I put in about 8 hours per day on it on top of being a fulltime student, and didn't even get any credit for it)... However, I've since moved to Los Angeles and am working on shooting an all-new reality series for the web. I haven't released any info about it yet, but when I do it'll be on my website: http://www.peteberg.net I'm hoping to use it as a pitch device to try to sell my show idea. -- Anyway, glad you guys liked the series so much! It was a ridiculous amount of work, but I think we ended up making some really great television, considering the fact that everyone was a volunteer, and we had NO budget whatsoever. (I paid for the entire second season out of my own pocket...$1000 to pay for all production expenses, gas, and provide food / lodging for 50 people...which is nothing in the tv world.) The Race was not nearly as polished or epic as TAR, but judging by your comments, I think we did a pretty good job. |

Bump, because I finally finished this - Leg 4 is definitely show-reel-worthy. The cast is so much better than the one on TAR: Asia, even with Daniel/Jeff were
a bit scarily reminiscent of David/Jeff
