It was a good premiere but I'm getting increasingly pissed off with the extreme overuse of sound effects, it seems to get worse every season. Do they
really need to put that 'rattlesnake of doom' noise on every time a team makes a mistake? At the start, every team that went right to the airport got
the noise... then every one who went left got the 'sleigh bells of success.' Do they really think their viewers are so dense that they need this kind
of thing to understand what's going on?... Although they might be judging the average intelligence of the audience by the posts on the CBS wiki, in which
case I'd understand.

If the Donkeys werent there, sure the episode wouldnt have been so great, but they WERE there and hence made this a great premiere. You can take a great moment
out of any episode and say "Well without that moment happening the leg wouldnt have been so great"
And I for me its not just due to it being recent memory, I re-watched all 11 season premieres in the past few weeks, and this one entertained me more than all of them other than TAR5. Almost all of the early seasons got off to really slow starts IMO and the last few seasons have been beyond dull. Top 3 premieres: 1) TAR5 2) TAR12 3) TAR8 |

It was good. Found quite a number of the teams a bit dull. But it's probably just because I haven't see them enough. Dunno.
Also, I didn't understand the logic behind taking a ferry to an island just to signup for return ferries the next day. What's up with that? Thought it was a waste of time. Loved the donkeys though so that kinda made up for it. Ecstatic Ari & Staella got the boot... couldn't stand Ari. Thank you Karma for proving to be the bigger b*tch.

You have to slap its butt to get it to go forward. And you can still be from the city and know that, and that you don't even have to slap. Just watch a Triple Crown race and notice how the stewards have to load the balky horses into the starting gate. Lock your arms and push from the rear. |

I was surprised that this show started in Hollywood. I figured that they'd be trying some new opening round locations and they've just worn out
California to no end. I was disappointed that they didn't begin in Boston or Houston or St. Louis or Milwaukee or Minneapolis. They should try some new
locations once and for all.

I hated the father-daughter moments coming so early. There was no need to repeat exactly the same sentiments ("you won't disappoint me") twice in one show on the Detour then exactly the same thing at the pitstop - it went from cheesy and nice, to cheesy and forced. It looks like next week the honeymoon is over (nothing gross meant by that, I swear! I'm looking forward to next week. Often the second leg of the show is really great - Mongolia in season 10 was one of the best eps of all time. Also the D.C./Civil War ep in FE (but maybe that's because I'm from there), Norway in season 6, Argentina in season 5. All great. |

I did enjoy this episode, but TAR5's premiere was so much better.
The donkeys were awesome. Somehow, even though they stick these animals in the first episode almost every season, it never gets old. |

I'm from Ireland and just got the episode off BitTorrent and...wow, after watching 11 seasons of TAR, seeing them visit places I've been to loads of
times and having all the "helpful locals" the racers run into speak with the same accent I do was incredibly strange. Note to race planners: We do
actually have towns and cities here, the whole island is not one big middle-of-nowhere land. They could at least have sent them to the Guinness Brewery in
Dublin or something. Could have been a lot worse, though. I'm just relieved there was no mention of any fucking leprachauns.
Overall, I enjoyed the episode, though. I'm happy Ari and Staela got the boot and the shrieky couple came second last, but it was soured a little by the randomness of it all. I know you can argue that how the teams treated their donkeys had an impact on how they behaved, but sometimes donkeys can just be an enormous pain in the ass. And I know they always have some "scary, extreme" task in the first leg but that bike contraption was so random and weird. |

I think I have to give TAR 6 best first episode, strictly because of the great destination of ICELAND.
TAR 5 had more drama though. |

i give the episode a B
i dislike most of the teams already, although i'm going to give TK and Rachel a chance, and i love Kynt and Vyxsin thus far as well. |

Other than CBS yet again opting for lazy casting (I loved how many ways they could say "from the greater L.A. area") this was a pretty good episode.
Considering I generally hate the first ep and winners of TAR, this is saying quite a bit. I must be crazy but I don't hate the goth kids yet.
I wish they would stop confusing Trustarfarians with Hippies though. -SJ™ |

TAR 6 best first episode, strictly because of the great destination of ICELAND. It's also the most quotable episode ever. TAR5, 6 and 7 all have awesome premieres. TAR5 stays great all season, TAR6 stops being good halfway when Gus/Hera go. TAR7 went into a tedious nosedive almost immediately. |

I thought TAR6 premiere dragged on and on. It was 2 hours of straightforward driving scenes. Tedious!
TAR1, TAR2, and TAR5 still had the best openers though. On another note, I was disappointed that there was no Riverdance or "kiss the Blarney stone" roadblock |

I don't know about the best of them all, but this eppy was up there. Excitement and tight editing!

Decent premiere. I'm disappointed by the lack of not just a good comic relief team, but a comic relief team of any sort. I mean, seasons 1,2, and 3 rock
and they are 3 of the four season with a genuine funny team that got far. Hell, TAR 2 and 3 had two, though one did not last as long. In addition, the Chas
from All-Stars were one of only two reasons to watch the race.
