Knew that LaGuerta was up to no good! Just the kind of shenanigans I've come to expect from her.

Convenient that the camera pointed right towards his boat! It'll be interesting to see how he gets out of that one...

That was an excellent episode, maybe one of my favorites.
His expressions and dialogue are just brilliant, and it's obvious his sponsor is the perfect woman for him...will be interesting to see where they take that. I have to think he'll still kill the man who killed his mother though. |

Good episode. Especially because that chick showed her ass and tits.
This seasons fun and all, but i don't know. I mean, cmon, we all know Dexter isn't going to stop killing, and we all know Dexter isn't going to get caught. Hell, i'm pretty sure he won't cheat on Rita either. So where are they going with this? |

I didnt generally care for this episode. What did redeem it for me is the impending conflict between Dexter and Jobeth Williams. I love that she just
ingratiates herself into her daughter's life. And it is exciting to see a little bit of Dex's method being chipped away (i.e. cameras now installed at
the marina).
Oh, what a coincidence that Debra's boyfriend is a children's book writer who just happens to be writing a book called the Ice Princess and just happens to leave his laptop wide open on the bed so she can then easily go through his emails. Im also uneasy about where the relationship between she and Ltd. Lundy. I thought Dexter was uncharacteristically careless in this episode. I dont believe that even out of passion he would have tied up the barowner then and there. Serial killers are nothing but methodical and he's been doing it for a long time. Jury's still out on the hot chick but I do find her morbid streak believable. There's definitely more going on with her however. |

Holy carp. THAT was Jobeth Williams? I did not even recognize her until you just said her name. It's not that she's hideous looking or anything, but
she really looks different than she used to.

I agree about Dexter and bar dude. I kept thinking - you are punching him and that is going to leave your DNA... ok you just spit in his face as you were
talking. He's seen your face and knows your name... KILL HIM!! I like sponsor chick - but she seems to be pushing him. I don't think it is healthy for
her to flaunt herself and be his sponsor. Why not just be his friend? I liked this episode.

This episode had some inconsistencies. I thought Dexter's asexual. So why would he even care that his sponsor is flaunting herself? (I also think it's wrong for her to do that and to stay in the same hotel room, being his sponsor and all.)
Also, his lack of preparedness when going to the bar. I agree with whoever said the thing about leaving his DNA. It's out of character for him. I could see Dexter searching his boat for blood spatter, but not in the open like that. He's too careful.
And how did Lundy know the name of Deb's boyfriend to do a background check? |

The bar owner is in a witness protection program...do you guys think he is going to go run and tell potentially exposing himself to the people he snitched on?

I have an issue with his sponsor. Besides the fact that what she is doing is extremely bad for his recovery and not what the 12 steps had in mind when they
created this sponsorship program. The fact that she flaunts her body around him when she knows he has a girlfriend - super destructive. I realize they are
supposed to be some kind of kindred spirits. However....
I hate her acting. She seems incredibly affected to me. |

Agree. Dexter knows the bar owner ain't snitching on him. Hell that guy is probably 100 miles away from Naples by now.
I was squirming the entire time Dex was cleaning his boat and shining the blood light. I just hope he was only filmed coming in and out of the marina with a bag--and not his entire activity on tape! I fucking hate Deb. Hate. Hate. Hate. She better clue Dexter in on the surveillance soon. |

Lyala is damaged good and should not be sponsoring anyone, but she's hot so all is forgiven

I was wondering how he could explain away the blood spatter search on his boat. Maybe seeing if anyone's been using his boat, trying to frame him since Deb mentioned how poor security was there? |

maxxfisher wrote: A male will not be able to get a female sponsor in recovery (and vice versa) unless they are gay. The reason for that is the sponsor/sponsee relationship is a very intimate relationship, revealing parts of yourself you have never revealed to another person before - at least honestly. An opposite sex sponsor will almost ALWAYS lead to romance/sex, and then the walls go back up, ruining the sponsor/sponsee relationship that was being established and putting the sponsee basically back at square one, having to find a new sponsor. Oh, it gets done on occasion, but it almost always fails. Almost always. Also, I am in my 12th year of recovery, clean every day of it (and "clean" includes "sober") and there is NOTHING in the 12 steps about confronting someone who has hurt you in any way so that you can get "closure." The steps are about admitting your own problems and addictions, your own moral failures, your own shortcomings, the ways you have hurt others and making amends for those things, and then continuing to keep your own side of the street clean. It's also about finding your own successes, your strengths, and how to use them so as not to use again. But it is ABSOLUTELY NOT about confronting those who you think may have hurt you. I get cranky every time I see a show use a 12 step program the wrong way because it gives the wrong impression to those not in recovery as "SEE? They're not trying to get clean - they're just trying to find someone to blame for their problems" and it is SO not that in ANY sense of the word. If Dexter were truly trying to recover from an addiction this "sponsor" would be doing way more damage than good. Clues that she doesn't have any sense about the relationship are when she said she's had "lots of sponsors." In my 12 years I've had 5 sponsors. The first three I had in my first year - 2 relapsed and I let them go so they could concentrate on their own recovery. The third one I had for 3 years until he moved out of state. The 4th one I had for 6 years until he got too ill to help me. He passed away shortly after. My current sponsor - my 5th - I've had for the last 2+ years. It's the long term relationship that makes sponsorship work. The sponsor can see patterns of self-sabotage and dishonesty and call me on it when it begins - BEFORE it causes damage to myself or others. Except for the first two, all of them have had long term recovery (like 15+ years) and have worked all of the steps. OK, I see I'm rambling atop a soapbox so I'll shut up and step down. But you can expect me to step up here again whenever they get waaaaaaaaay off track of the recovery program like they have. I'll let little stuff go, but the basic building blocks? Um, noe. |

Its a tv show. Get over it. And what if your sponser is an orca whale fat old lady? That gonna lead to romance? Nope.

sofa, m'bro...
I know it's TV. And I'm happy to suspend belief for any show within its own developed logic. For instance, I'm more than happy to do it for The Office and stupid, silly, Michael. Or even way back when for I Dream of Jeannie or Bewitched. And who would EVER think that someone as idiotic as Lucy Ricardo could ever exist? But this show is about forensic evidence. They continually speak of science in the ways of blood spatter, corpse decomposition, and now algea for cryin' out loud! And someone like Dexter could exist and get away with it for quite a while, if not forever. So that's why I have a problem with it. If you're going to be a "by the rules" show, then follow the rules. If you're going to be a silly fantasy show, then be that. But you can't eat your cake and have it, too (which, by the way is the correct way to use that expression, not the other way around). Also, I can guarantee that NA did not sign off on the program being used in this show. Evidence to support this is that the NA logo is not used in the meetings, as it typically would be when the letters "NA" are displayed. Those are simple Arial type font. The NA logo is a stylized logo that is copyrighted, with the copyright being held by the members as a whole. Also, the NA World Service Office does not get to make decisions. The body as a whole makes the decisions through representation who must bring all business back to their respective groups. It would take anywhere from 2 to 6 years to make a decision of this nature, one I'm sure the writers/producers didn't want to wait for. If NA had given its blessing they would have exercised much more caution on how the porgram was portrayed. All that being said, I enjoy the show! It's spooky, suspenseful, and I care about Dexter and the other characters (although NOT Deb in any way)! So I'll continue to watch and enjoy. But I will bitch when they misuse NA. |
