Olivia shouldn't get the gold star next. Besides she basically made the council feel as if they had to give it to her sister because of her birthday.
Taylor handled being voted off a lot better than Mike did.

At first, I saw Olivia in a higher status, maybe someone who wouldn't shake shit up. After this, this is a turning point. If it weren't for Laurel and
Anjay with the sympathy cards for "Awww.... birthday + no parents + no presents = 'I feel bad' - Laurel", Greg, Zach or Morgan would have
gotten the star and not Mallory.
I think this episode is good but kinda annoying. True colors start to show and boy, I hate that. Taylor handled the election results better than Mike. Yes, he may be a wussy but come on, he's like 11. And 11 year olds don't cry? Maybe... in North Korea... |

Ah, maybe it's just cleaver editing. Yeah, we see some green members coming up to cast their vote. Heck, Laurel is holding a ballot.
Hopefully, the next Kid Nation takes the kids to an Amish country. And Taylor comes back and the other kids begin the shunning. |

I don't really have an issue with Mike crying because he lost. I agree, he's 11 and he took a thumping. His feelings were hurt and any normal kid
would cry in a situation like that. I had more of a problem with Mike before he was ever voted out. He acted all high and mighty all the time and not in the
same, amusing way Taylor did. Taylor pretty admitted that she was a Queen Bee and didn't have to do a damn thing and people just needed to "Deal With
It!". Mike on the other hand, just kind of barked orders around and acted like he was doing something when he wasn't.
I think Mike might be more likable when he's not in a position of power. Taylor is going to be a spoiled little brat no matter what and yipee for that because without Taylor antics, this show would suck! |

If Blaine had won the gold star, that would've been enough for four years at a state university. In Florida, our public universities are extremely cheap
for in-state students (out-of-state pays like 4 times what we pay). I don't know what Nevada's costs are, though...

Taylor, Greg, Zack, (and especially) Jared --- they're appealing because they seem authentic. It will be interesting to see how Guylan does on the council. He just appeared this episode, but he seems a bit like Mike -- not really understanding the concept of responsibility. |

My guess for why the green team voted is that perhaps every team votes for each colour's candidates, and they only go to the other teams' votes in the event of a tie. Could explain why election speeches were addressed to the whole town. |

I was surprised that Taylor was so gracious about losing, but then I realized that being a pageant kid, she would have had to practice her 'gracious
loser' face many times before now. The little bitch probably has a jar of Vaseline tucked into her back pocket at all times.
Greg deserved a gold star for his cumulative body of work, even if he didn't have the best attitude at all times. He's fourteen years old, he's doing very well considering he's at peak hormonal asshole age. Guylan is a freak. I can't wait to see how he changes, being on the council. |

None of these children bothered me to the point of over invested emotions. Kids will be kids. Interesting social study, this group is. Of course, edited ..but still. Still like Alex the best. He's a baby Buddha, out of the melodrama(much), dispersing his wisdom beyond his years in those great snippets. |

Kids will be kids and people will be people. But what's the fun in talking about a reality show if you just like everyone? I didn't like kids like Mike
when I was 11, and I don't like them when they grow up to become incompetent middle managers. I don't wish the little guy any ill will; but I'm not
going to root for him.
I agree on the Alex-love. And who doesn't love Jared? It's hard not to like the little kids, because they just hang back and observe from the side-lines. |

I'm in on the Alex love too! The One Toof Wonder is pretty cool!
And Jared is just pure comedic gold! |

I think you've hit on why Mike bothered me so much. He's a phony; he's trying to be something (a leader) that he's clearly not.See, I agree that he's not a very effective leader, but I don't think he's phony. I think he sincerely believes he does a good job. He's very earnest and tries hard, but he's pretty clueless about some things. He cries easily, and that's not exactly a badge of honor for a kid his age. I think he's sensitive and feels strongly about things. I don't hate Mike. He's got a colorful personality, and he seems smart. I bet in a few years he'll have figured a lot of stuff out. |

The next Gold Star??? I think it might be Mike. In the next episode I could see him getting a favorable light and Taylor and negative light. These
two will probably be next week's focus. There really aren't any other candidates to mention so far with Zach out of the line up.
Anjay won reelection b/c Greg won the Gold Star. If Greg lost again then Anjay would have been history. You have to bring home the bacon to your team. |

I agree. Maybe 'clueless' is a better word than 'phony'. I think he's trying to be something he's not. Or someone's pushing him to
be something he's not.
The primary emotion I feel for all these kids is pity. This isn't a cross-section of American kids. I have no idea how this show was cast, but I suspect it's a bunch of kids whose parents wanted them to be on TV. So I wouldn't be surprised if most of them have pushy parents who've told them from birth 'you're gifted', 'you're special'', "you're talented" whether they are or aren't. Mike's parents probably told him "you're a leader" even though that's obviously not something that comes natural to him. And I don't hate Mike either. I just find him the least likable person on the show. And he gets a ton of airtime, so I'd like to see him fade away and find out more about the other people on the show. Some people think Taylor is a bitch or Greg is an asshole or that kid with the fauxhawk who wanted the TV to watch for storms is a retard. I think Mike is a young, painfully real-life version of Michael from "The Office". PS: What's Mike saying in that clip? Is that where he says "Party on, baby!" or something like that? |
