Because they had 42 minutes before the ship crashed into the sun. Plus it's the secret of life, the universe, and all that : ) The episode was shown in
"real time" on the BBC, cutting it for commercials kinda ruins the premise.
The next run of episodes are awesome though, definitely some of the best of the new series. |

ITA, lizzo - they saved all of the really good episodes for the back half of the season. Human Nature/Family of Blood, Blink, and the three-part finale were
all fantastic.

Just noticed this thread. I really like Martha. I didn't think I would at first but I liked her instantly, whereas I needed time to like Rose. I'm
also liking the whole buildup with Mr. Saxon. First season was the Bad Wolf theme, second season Torchwood, and now Mr. Saxon.
Don't know if its been posted here yet, but Joan Collins will be playing Time Lady Rani in the 4th season. I hope someone calls her a bitch and that there will be a space cat fight! Anyhow, wasn't happy with the news of Martha only being on 3 or 4 episodes of Who in the 4th season. I didn't really like that Runaway Bride chick who will be the new companion. Am eagerly waiting for the first season of Torchwood on BBC America. I love me some Captain Jack! |

I never thought I would say this, but I *cringe* at what BBCAmerica has done re: editing DW (and probably TW, tho I dozed off) for airing. Having sat down to
watch Christmas Invasion & New Earth, I was mortified at how much was cut. For once I will have to give SciFi the nod as they've done a fairly decent
job of keeping the shows reasonably intact and true to their original UK airings.

I hope they do "Blink" (tonight's episode) justice. I hope commercial breaks don't ruin the tension. It's an awesome scary episode, my
favorite of the new series.

Boy, these short season's always catch me by surprise. Seemed like the season was just getting started and it's over.
At least the last few were good. The Master dying didn't really make any sense, but oh well. Hopefully he comes back. |

I loved the three episode finale, and not just because it had my Captain Jack in it.
I rewatched Utopia recently, and will probably be rewatching The Sound of Drums and Last of the Time Lords again soon. |

It sucks that they cut them. Didn't they do the full episodes of Coupling a few years ago and just had them run 40+ minutes to fit in commercials?
I'm buying the videos or downloading bittorrents of the show so I don't have to deal with any editing.

God I love this show. I can't believe it took me so long to start watching it. I just always thought the old ones looked so cheesy so I never bothered
with the new ones. I just bought Series 1 and watched them all and I've ordered Series 2. I saw the last 3 episodes of Series 3 with Captain Jack and
that was what made me decide I had to see them all. Christopher Eccleston was excellent as the doctor but I love David Tennant as well.
