So where should I live in L.A.? |
Lead | |
|
Looks like the L.A. thing is going to work out. Anyone live there that can give me tips on nice neighborhoods to live and scary dangerous areas that I should
avoid? My father has friends and family in I believe Westwood (south of Beverly Hills is that right?) and I liked it. I also wouldn't mind living
somewhere that is fairly close to the ocean. Anywhere affordable like that or is it all billionaire movie star mansions? Also my impression of L.A. when I
have been there before was that you pretty much have to pay for parking every single place in the city. Is this really the case? I think the grocery store
was the only place I went that didn't have valet parking.

Also want to add: You may want to checkout Brentwood, but the area is filled with Studiohead soccor Moms. However, it is a nice area, not that near the beach like the ones I mentioned above, but it's closer than say Silverlake or Echo Park. You might also want to check out areas past the Century City Mall (in fact their are highrise condos next to the CCM that are cool) near little Santa Monica Blvd as well as homes near Mount Saint Mary's College if you are interested in living in the hills, not too far from the beach, but you still have to drive, and are adjacent to the 405 fwy.

Hermosa Beach
Redondo Beach
Pseudo -- Have you ruled out San Diego? The Oceanside District (west of downtown SD) is more relaxed than LA's beach towns. Think about it.

Hermosa Beach is an alcoholic beach filled with frat boys and East Coast transplants. Parts of Redondo can be iffy and slightly ghetto, in the white trash
sense. Pseudo may not feel to comfortable living in those areas.
Houses, apartments, and condos in those areas (specifically HB) are literally on top of each other. You look out your window and you can see inside your naeighbors house. The homes are not worth the asking price (but that's not new these days.) However, the good thing about HB is the restaurants on Hermosa Ave. The center of it all is off HB pier... bars galore and good food. However, on the weekends and holidays... forget it. It's packed. Parking is a bitch. Nonetheless, if you live below PCH you can walk everywhere. If you like to play volleyball the city has teams which locals sign up and play against each other during the season. This also applies to football and basketball.

^^ Fine. Just go to gentrified Santa Monica or live on a boat in Marina del Rey, Pseudo.

I'm not Pseudo, but from reading his posts for awhile now he doesn't strike me as a guy who would fit in nor like living in Redondo Beach... maybe, and
that's a big maybe, he might like HB.

Is this a Jibjab parody thread? Or are all OT gaes incapable of making decisions on their own?

Sarcasm, P&C, sarcasm. If Psuedo wants the beach in LA, he's likely going to be disappointed by comparison to his current digs further up the coast.
That's why I say go to SD -- lots of good places (Solano Beach area is what So. Cal. should be).

Zunk isn't Santa Monica expensive? I don't think I will be that disappointed by the beach in L.A. I know it isn't going to be like the central coast but I just like the ocean. And it isn't like the central coast is that far away? I can visit my old roommates and it is just a four hour drive or I can go to Santa Barbara which is just 2 hours away. |

Before you decide where to live, what is your budget for rent? Where is your job located; or will you even be looking for a job?
