I was raised Roman Catholic but there's too much bullshit, the Bible is a crock and taken way too literally and I refuse to believe in the divinity of
Jesus Christ. I personally like Agnostic Theism. I honestly think that it's impossible to prove one way or another if there is a God or not, or any type of
god but I do personally believe there is one and I agree that Atheism is too arrogant, the way many religious people are too arrogant. It seems strange but
Agnosticism revolves around knowledge rather than belief and theism revolves around belief.

Someone PM me and tell me where I ever said any questions or answers were off-limits.
We all know the Jerrifan thing likes to make shit up. I'll check when I get home from work, or maybe tomorrow. Thanks in advance. |

Did Scruffyguy choose to be gay so he could hate women or was it the other way around?

Weak atheist.
And like someone else mentioned, I also don't get why everyone cares so much what mine or anyone else's beliefs are. As long as you don't pick fights with me about my beliefs, tell me I'm going to hell, etc. or try and convince me to think like you, I don't give a shit what you believe. |

Holy shit Scruffy, calm the fuck down, man...
Back-peddlerWTF? May I refer you to the first post in this thread: Which side of the agnostic/athiest border do you fall on and why .... and what made you decide to shift your label from agnostic - weak athiest - strong athiest etc.I have stated my reasons for being a non-believer in other threads, but it just so happens that I was responding to the question being posed in this thread. What's the figure? 95% of the entire world believes in some form or religion and in the existence of God? Yes, I believe it is 95%. Facing those kinds of odds, you'd have to be a complete imbecile to actually get riled up over the fact that atheists are going to be in the minority and will face incredible opposition. So by that logic, if a majority of people in the world believe homosexuals are deviants condemned to hell, gays should just accept being a minority and not be pissed off about it? |

Anthropomorphizing God is NOT arrogant?
Of course it is. That statement does not, however, indicate in any way that we shouldn't ask questions about God. Even physicists do not discount the possibility of the existence of God. It figures prominently into the Big Bang theory, you stupid fucking moron. If more people asked questions about God instead of relying on stock beliefs that are taught to them and accepted at face value, the world would be a much more interesting and probably peaceful place. It is in applying a human face and human characteristics to God that we indulge our own arrogance. Again, it is clear that Jerrifan is the dumbest motherfucker ever to disgrace the internet, and that includes a whole hell of a lot of dumb motherfuckers. |

So by that logic, if a majority of people in the world believe homosexuals are deviants condemned to hell, gays should just accept being a minority and not be pissed off about it?Being pissed off about it does nothing to change those opinions. Presenting logical discourse about the subject may be the better option, though very few who disagree would be willing to listen in the first place. The wiser decision would be to live your life and be happy with who you are and not worry so much about what other people think. The fact is, gays ARE the minority. I'm pretty sure most of us understand this and are OK with it. Your analogy is flawed, too: the majority of the world does not believe we are deviants "condemned to hell." They just think we're icky. |

Interestingly, the term 'big bang' originated as an uncharitable creationist caricature of the theory it eventually came to denote. And you spoke about
people thinking about God more broadly. But giving you the benefit of the doubt, anthropomorphizing God is arrogant. Even imagining God in the absence of ANY
evidence is arrogant.
eta: I love how you're so careful to avoid arrogance, but bandy about terms like stupid and pea-brain.

I went to Catholic school all my life. I believe in God and many of the teachings and all that and blah blah blah, but I really don't care enough to
practice any of it. I suppose I'm a weak Catholic/weak agnostic. The God I choose to believe in is the Catholic one, but I don't deny or try to
disprove other people's Gods. I keep to myself.
However, If someone is shit-talking and they're just totally ignorant and don't know what they're saying, I'll speak up for God. God is gangsta. |

The God I choose to believe in is the Catholic oneSo you think it's reasonable that God's reaction to our torturing his son to death would be to grant us eternal salvation? |

If God really existed and The Bible was true, I'd have to think another flood would've happened to wipe out at least some of the idiots. There's
not enough smiting nowadays.
For a while, I always called myself agnostic. I didn't go to Catholic School, but did all the Catholic stuff growing up (First Communion, Confirmation, etc). I never bought any of that stuff. It always bothered me that the year before I had my Confirmation, I "had" to go to church every week (we had envelopes we had to put in). I never liked the idea of a religion telling me how I should worship, when I should, etc. That's when I started to not believe that stuff. Going to college, having those experiences, etc. just confirmed my non-belief. Recently, though, I've been on the atheist side. I'm one of those see it to believe it people. Part of me wants to believe there is something more than existence and that something like heaven is there once I die. I completely agree with the poster that mentioned wanting to believe in God like Santa. I know neither exists, but it would be cool if they do. And, even though I don't believe, I'm not worried about what happens when I die. I know that I'm a decent person and am figuring things out for myself rather than blindly following something (not saying all religious people do this, but many do). I think I'm in good shape. |
