Some symbols/images I noticed: - Sunrise before Fei Long's intro. - Amanda is shown using a battering ram (will dominate/crush the competition?) - Denise is followed by a panda image, maybe hinting at a non-threatening, gentle personality. - Jean-Robert is followed by an image of a lone man in a raft. - Sunset before Zhan Hu's intro. - Jaime is followed by an image of 9 standing statues. - A snake is in between Ashley and Chicken, who is now the first boot. - Overall, Zhan Hu has more footage of weary and struggling tribe members. I was never good at the symbolism, though it makes sense when you put it in writing. Should we deduce the winner will come from Fei Long (and I'm sorry but every time I see that, I keep thinking of the Bruce Lee copycat in Street Fighter) based on the good signs? Also, the logo is of two dragons and is red-heavy. Why not use one dragon and one tiger? Hmm.. For further examination, the contestant order and actions: Fei Long: Aaron: Rowing, mud challenge shot (looking beat) Courtney: Camp shot of her crouching and twisting leaves (WTF), slightly smiling. James: Challenge shot of him carrying dragon, giving thumbs up. Amanda: Smiling, using battering ram at challenge. Denise: Camp shot (smiling), pre-challenge shot (muddy and blowing out breath). Jean-Robert: Camp shot (carrying branch/bamboo), looking nervous and/or doubtful. Todd: Camp shot (throwing branch/bamboo), looking up and nodding slightly. Leslie: Camp shot carrying palm fronds, crying outside of temple. Zhan Hu: Dave: Mud challenge shot, smiling pre-mud challenge. Jaime: Smiling and running during mud challenge, smiling (with someone's arm around her) pre-mud challenge. Frosti: Struggling during mud challenge (being pulled down by James. Symbolic?), smiling pre-mud challenge. Ashley: Climbing along something (?), nodding and smiling. Chicken: Camp shot (carrying, passing bamboo), looking around. Sherea: Camp shot (walking looking pissed), holding branch/bamboo looking defeated. Peih-Gee: Carrying wood, smiling. Erik: Carrying more wood, drinking water pre-mud challenge (while someone is rubbing his head? WTF?)

And, maybe the sunset/sunrise thing is a reference to the Thailand tribe picking thing; I remember hearing something about each tribe being associated with one of each.

Their intro is more relaxed and happier all around. Also, symbolically, the dragon always reigns supreme in Chinese art and history. The sunrise imagery also bodes well. Courtney's shots are interesting. Working with leaves is such a small task to be shown doing, but the twisting and throwing away of the leaf is emphasized.

Hmm, Courtney twisting and throwing away the leaves could be symbolic of her being described as ruthless and cut-throat. Throwing her opponents away perhaps? I'd bet on her, Amanda (battering ram, ramming through the competition as you mentioned) or Todd (based on his edit in the first epi.) as the winner.

Like, the look on Chicken's face was one of him seeming kind of down. Jean-Robert's shot of a lone man on a raft could mean winner or complete outsider. James' shot of him giving the thumbs up could be taken to mean that "things are looking up" for him. Todd tossing away the bamboo without effort could mean he's a ruthless competitor that cuts people away and mows down the competition without much effort, or it could be interpreted to mean he throws his game away. Amanda's is pretty obvious in that it seems she goes far and does well. Frosti's shot could almost mean that he becomes the Aras to James's Terry when it comes to challenges, while Jaime's shot including someone having their arm around him might mean she needs the help of others to stop from breaking down. I could say the snake being between Ashley and Chicken represents Ashley being a snake, but who knows if there's merit to that.

It's a close-up shot of her face followed by the regular shot (battering ram). In ASS both Rob and Amber's intros were flipped and also in the final two.

Maybe he finds a strong partner that helps keepin him in the game. Amanda smashes through the competition with a pole. Maybe she becomes a challenge threat? Panda in between Denise and Jean-robert. Which one is the strong Panda. I'd bet on the ladder since Denise seems to be sighing and Jean-Robert is carrying a big load. Todd seems angry as he throws the bamboo. Long break between Todd/Leslie and the rest of their tribe. Very similar to Michelle/Rita. Also, right before their intros, we see a smoking man and two ducks? Maybe Leslie and Todd make it far but are played as pawns? Xhang-Wu's first three members (Dave-Jamie-Frosti) are all shown struggling in some type of mud challenge yet their second shots all show signs of relief. Statue in between Frosti and Ashley. Cobra in between Ashley and Chicken. Maybe Ashley is the Cobra. Very very intimidating due to her profession. And also it seems she gets into a fight next week. OVERALL: Amanda's sticks out to me the most! Dave's and Jamie's aren't as interesting but always catch my eye. Maybe I just like pandas, but Jean-Robert's is intertesting. I wonder what the panda really symbolizes.

In the opening credits, the same cobra was shown after Ashley, with the same music. I think that the cobra after Ashley just ties her to Jeff's comment about the strong being challenged, which did occur in this episode. Ashley was predicted to be strong, but the elements quickly got the best of her. I don't think that the cobra means Ashley will be some sort of snake throughout the game.

Amanda's definitely stands out, just as the rest of you think. However, one minor problem. She's 4th in the intro. Earl was 4th too. Or maybe they just did that to throw us off - but have any back-to-back winners had the same position in the intro? Who knows, maybe this could be the first. But it makes me skeptical. Dave, Jaime & Frosti really stand out for me, because theirs are so continuous and the second shots they use for all of them are very epic. The snake thing with Ashley might be just to play on her resemblance to a snake (am I the only one who sees it?), and then there is that very high-pitched note that it projects on Chicken. Right after that, with Sherea, the drums start getting really intense and much louder, following from Sherea to Peih-Gee to Erik. Dunno if any of that means anything, but who knows. I love the intro though, the music and the shots used are great. It gives a lot to think about! Would have liked to see another Michelle type intro though, one that's so far apart from everyone else.

Of course, that would probably be silly to do it for that reason, but it's kind of an ironic fact.
