I don't really think it's to absurd or unfair for the castaways to get flint. I think China is the farthest north that Survivor has ever gone, so is
probably the coldest climate too. Also, with the wetness of China, I think they needed to give the castaways flint fairly early.

They had to give them flint. The tribe needs to boil the water before drinking it because the water in china is so polluted.
As factories have multiplied along the river banks, a shortage of water treatment plants means that about 80% of industrial wastewater is untreated when it is discharged back into rivers. China has by far the highest total emission of organic water pollutants in the world - equivalent to those of the USA, Japan and India combined. If it all was that poisoned, all of the people and fish would be dead.
Later on in the series, they are taught to catch and eat fish from the river they are on. Cannot be THAT polluted. Fuck the New Agriculturalist. Fuck it dead.
