It wasn't a "prayer" positioning, it's just the "ceremony" positioning. Buddhists don't "pray" to Buddha or to any other "god"; that's kind of the point of Buddhism. The monk was just showing (a very disrespectful) Courtney the way the hand position was supposed to be, just as you might show a kid the proper way to hold a bat if you were teaching him how to swing. I would not compare this to forcing someone to take Communion, which clearly is a "religious" ceremony and in fact is not supposed to even be DONE by nonbelievers, right? As for Leslie, I respect her right not to participate in a ceremony, religious or not, and actually think walking out was better than Courtney's eye-rolling and "I can't believe I have to do this" attitude, but the whole "OMG this makes me ill" overreaction was a bit much. However, it marked her early and she can now live with the social consequences of this, just as Joanna did in S6.

At weddings and funerals when guests of other faiths attened the masses they would stand and kneel respectfull of the ceremony of their host. Its just common sence, common courtesy, common decency...and you know, adult behavior.

Most decent people would. I've knelt on pews, non-Jewish men will wear the Yarmulke at weddings, etc. Hi nuclear snake!

Going to Jewish weddings and services for various sects of Christianity really isn't the same as being forced to bow down before golden statues of Buddha and such. Also, those of you who are saying she should have just gone along for the ride since it really didn't mean anything anyway are implying that their religion is inferior and a joke. The fact that she got so emotional about it proves she was taking it seriously, which is more than can be said for someone like Courtney, who was laughing and rolling her eyes the whole time. The action that was being requested of Leslie is in direct conflict with her personal beliefs. It's the equivalent of asking an Orthodox Jew (who is kosher) to eat pork, or a vegan Hindu to eat Beef. It's repulsive to a person of strict faith in anything to be asked to compromise, that's the root issue. Even atheists would be repulsed to raise their hands in a Christian worship service...or, say the pledge of allegiance? ETA: I suppose a follow up question is: If you can excuse her the action of not bowing down would it have been more respectful to leave as she did or stay and just stand respectfully? Had it not been for that she would have stayed in the ceremony. In Christianity bowing is defenitly a sign of worship. Read the book of Daniel. She was correct in what she did. Courtney was an arrogant asshat.
